This is the first tournament I have gone to in
2005. I have at last turned 18, and we all know what that means! I’m
going clubbing! First, though, I have a tournament to duel in. The
Dark Tide was in its usual form, and here it is.

After chasing a rumor that my local target had Survivors
packs (they didn’t), I arrived at the store. We waited until 12:30, when
we had about 11 people. We began then.
TOURNAMENT
STRUCTURE:
Swiss, Four rounds. $5 entry fee. Person
with the most points wins. Packs will be awarded to first and second
place, with packs also going to random people and to the best sportsman.
Best two out of three for each round. Simple, right?
Pairings were announced. My first opponent was
Little Kid
FIRST ROUND: LEE vs. LITTLE
KID
Obviously, I forgot Little Kid’s name. He was
using a Dark deck, with his 1337 Ultracide Worm as his trump
card
DUEL ONE: He summoned some early creatures, and I
did the same. He broke a few shields, one of which yielded a Crystal
Memory. I ended up smoking/killing all his creatures, and when he summoned
a bunch of blockers at the end, I summoned Paladin (I memoried him).
1-0
DUEL TWO: He got a slower start this round, and
only broke one shield of mine early on. In the end, I allowed him to
Summon Ultracide Worm, then I Terror Pitted it for fun.
2-0.
I won that round, then… OH GOD. I had to face
DUEL ONE: I couldn’t maintain any field
presence. In the end, he killed everything I summoned, and never broke any
of my shields. I decked out. 2-1
DUEL TWO: This round was worse. There was
nothing I could to beat him. Once again, he decimated my field, and I
decked out. Way to go Austin, you no-good son of a…
2-2
That sucked. There was no way I could win anymore,
so I had to shoot for second. My next opponent was another n00b, which
meant my odds were looking a little better.
No, this isn’t the big Phony, and no, this isn’t
tournament organizer Justin. This is just another little kid with a green
blue wannabe deck.
ROUND ONE: As much as he tried to summon a decent
army, I just didn’t feel like letting him. I bounced, smoked, Coriled, and
pitted anything he tried to do. He broke only a few of my shields, and I
pummeled him into oblivion. 3-2
ROUND TWO: Same song, second verse. I
smacked all his creatures around, and when he tried to block my final strike at
the end, I summoned Paladin. 4-2
I wasn’t going to win first or second, but I would have
a clear cut third if I went undefeated in this next round. My opponent was
Steven.
Steven was using a Mono-Black deck, which I was curious
to face. It seemed to have a lot of discard, and I’d need to tread
cautiously around his shields. Third place was on the
line.
ROUND ONE: I rushed (as much as this deck can),
and broke several shields early (he got Locomotiver, and I lost much of my
hand). In the end, I managed to get field advantage and pillage his hand,
so I was able to win. 5-2
ROUND TWO: This time, I took care of his hand
before he could take care of mine. He broke a few shields, however, but
none of them helped him. In the end, I used Paladin to clear the way to a
victory. 6-2
And that, as they say, is
that.
THE AFTERMATH:
I’m not used to losing I guess.
Now, to slops and Props.
PROPS:
Getting Alcadieas
For Galactic Quest being an awesome
store!
Getting the sportsmanship
award
SLOPS:
Losing
Losing to
Losing bites, but there’s always next week. Next
week is the survivors draft, so I’ll be sure to let you know how that
goes. I’ve also modified my deck so that I can own
