Tournament of the Five Civilizations
Shadows of Infinite Doom
22 Participants
10$ Entry fee
Hello all, it is I, Brandon (AKA Neo), back with a
tournament report from the Five Civilizations tournament. I
know that I have not wrote one in a while, but I’ll try to
make it interesting.
I arrived at Galactic Quest at about 12:30 and saw the
familiar faces of Stephan Slack and Justin Florio, neither
of which were playing. There was a pretty big turnout of
about 20-22 people, so it would be 6 rounds with a cut to
Top Four. This tournament was very important, as it would
determine who would receive invitations to the 2006
Continental Championships in South Carolina. I was
determined to get one, as I did not really care about the
packs.

I got to the store at about 12:20 and saw a few familiar
faces. I had decided on my deck after getting some
revisions. I spent a few minutes in silence, watching some
of the practice duels to see how my opponents would play and
what type of deck to expect. At about one, pairings were
announced, but they forgot Austin Ladshaw, so they redid
them.
Round One: Andy Simmons (Dark/Water/Fire Control)
At the time I did not know this, but this was the Andy I
knew from another site called Duelzone. It seemed at first
Andy was confident. The duel began, with him starting.
Details about this duel were foggy, but I remember him
hurting my field with Bazagazeal and Fists of Fury. I
managed to discard his Bazagazeal before any further damage
was done. I got a pretty nice field size and started
attacking shields. I believe I used Lost Soul three times in
this duel.
Second duel was pretty much the same. He lost his hand
fairly quickly, and I did too. I got it back with King
Ripped Hide. Deklowaz managed to kill a few of his creatures
and allowed me to see his hand. It ended up coming down to
his last shield, because if it was a trigger, I would lose,
but it was not, so I got the victory.
Result: 2-0
Well after that duel my mom had brought me a sub from the
deli that is like 3 or 4 doors down from GQ. I munched on it
and went outside to see some dueling action. In minutes,
pairings for Round Two were up
Round Two: Travis Bouknight (Dark/Water/Light Control)
Travis had managed to beat Josh, who has a pretty good
upcoming duelist. In the first duel he basically owned me.
He got La Ura Giga, Kelp Candle, Aqua Hulcas, Magris, Corile,
etc. He broke all my shields in a matter of turns. However,
his evolutions never hit the board. I would not allow it.
This duel went in my favor, but it was close. He got out
Petrova which was quickly dealt with by my Bazagazeal
Dragon. He got me down to no shields pretty quickly but that
gave me an advantage. I got him top decking, which was the
secret to beating him as I learned. I killed all his
creatures, kept his hand low, and got my own army of
creatures. This time, I won the duel.
This round was easier. I got his hand low fast, killed what
he managed to get, and summoned my creatures.
Result: 2-1
Round Three: Tyler Smallwood (Bombazar Control)
Now, its been a long time since this name has gotten into my
report. I had vowed revenge ever since my first report. But
this time, Justin Florio has loaned him Bombazar and a few
cards to make a deck. I did not think my deck would do well
against it. Too bad I was right. First duel, Tyler gets out
Bombazar really fast and kills me. No comment.
This duel, he got a turn 4 Bolmeteus out. I was at a loss of
words. It was luck too. He killed his weaker creature,
prayed, and got his damn creature. Shortly after that, he
got Bombazar, but my last shield saved me.
Tyler won. Short and sweet.
1-2
Round Four: Michael Burke (Dark/Water/Fire Control)
I ended up at the n00b table now. This kid was using a deck
similar to mine, but no where near as solid. This kid got
owned, and I don’t mean to sound like a prick, but its
that simple.
2-0
Round Five: Josh (forgot your last time pal)
Now guys, there duels were off. I figured out why on Sunday,
and I was not happy about it. In the first duel I got a hand
full of high costs. I lost. Second duel, another crap hand,
but Joshs is great. I managed to win this one with a
combination of Galek/Corpse Charger and Josh’s mistakes. I
had to win this.
Third duel, my hand was better, but Josh’s was even better.
He won. With Bolmeteus.
Conclusion
I dropped out after this round. It was over. No way for Top
Four and that was all I cared about. I collected my one pack
and Melnia foil and left. The pack had Pala Olesis and
Tanzanyte in it, so I guess it was ok. I had a lot of fun
there, but it’s a shame that Da Vinci’s (Italian restaurant
next door) did not open until 4. It smelled so good. Might
as well let you know, Lee Sandow played today, and let me
add he can be hilarious. And so can Tyler lol. Also, I WILL
be attending the Last Chance Qualifier, so hopefully I’ll
have two reports, one for Last Chance and one for the 2006
Continental Championships. I hope to hook up with some
friends .
PROPS:
Attending
Good sportsmanship of all my opponents
Having fun
SLOPS:
My deck, and my friends
Da Vinci’s not being open until 4
Not making Top 4 cut
Having to drop because I was disappointed
If you want to trade (Please trade me if you have Petrova/Craze
Val), Chat, Duel, hit me up!
