Crunch$G A card most of us wouldn’t of called getting banned, but a card whose ban actually does affect the deck it was played in, here’s Eclipse Wyvern. Wyvern is a Level 4 LIGHT Dragon with 1600 ATK and 1000 DEF. Attribute allows Chaos plays, Dragon means Guardragons with its low level, and the stats aren’t the worst thing in the world. If this card is sent to the graveyard, you can banish a Level 7 or higher LIGHT or DARK Dragon from your deck. This works with a lot of Chaos monsters like Black Luster Solider, Lightpulsar Dragon, Chaos Sorcerer in the past or more modern you got Chaos Dragon Levianeer, which this commonly banished to get itself banned in 2019, but back in the day you had something like Dark Armed Dragon or Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon as options as well, but DAD isn’t common anymore and REDMD has other ways of getting to you. Wyvern upon being banished added the card it banished to your hand, which gives it the purpose it had in decks using monsters like White Dragon Wyverburster and Black Dragon Collapserpent as Collapserpent could of banished this to summon itself and be used as some material to search Wyverburster while banishing the Wyvern got you to Chaos Dragon Levanieer to do something like revive one of your monsters or destroy your opponent’s card or put a card from the opponent’s hand into the deck, and that’s a card worth talking about getting hit for another time. For now, Eclipse Wyvern is a hit many Guardragon decks will feel, but the deck isn’t dead without it. Eclipse Wyvern was just a good consistency card. Alex Searcy Midweek brings us to another Banned card in the TCG (still also Unlimited in the OCG) with Eclipse Wyvern. This has had one prior review, all the way back in 2012. This card didn’t have half the weapons to work with and abuse that it did upon its release 7 odd years ago. With Dragons as powerful, if not more powerful than ever, this was a tremendous little weapon taken away from them. With the removal aspect attached to this card, and how that feature has grown in the game, in addition to how easy it is to return and revive Banished cards, I can see why this card got hit. This was a wonderful synergy card. It’s one of those Bans for a Dragon player, in whatever form or function you may have been playing your Deck, that I consider a substantial loss, but not a crippling one. (That’s close to something Bakura says when Yugi and Joey duel in Duelist Kingdom). Anyway, with so much you could do with this card, it was just too good to be here in the now, apparently. Rating: 4.5/5 Art: 5/5 The Eclipse definitely gets the money for the art here. The Dragon is cool too, it definitely seems to be changing colors due to the eclipse. |
King of Lullaby Hello Pojo Fans, Eclipse Wyvern was part of the hits to Guardragon, though the deck isn’t going to slow down because of it. Anytime Wyvern is sent to the grave you’ll get to banish a Level 7 or higher LIGHT or DARK Dragon from your Deck. Multiple deck-thinning opportunities per turn, already overpowering. If you banish an Eclipse Wyvern you’ll get to add a monster banished with it. Multiple copies of Wyvern equals multiple cards, one Wyvern means one of the multiple cards you may have banished. Being LIGHT makes it chaos fodder, Level 4 makes it Guardragon synergy. If this card is banished from your Graveyard: You can add the monster banished by this card’s effect to your hand. Black Dragon Collapserpent banishes Wyvern after you used it for Guardragon, now you got back your card you banished, you also have another Guardragon play with BDC, setting up the REDMD plays. Pisty could also be used to bring back one of the monsters you banished with Wyvern, or bring back Wyvern to use its effect again if you link it away with one of your Guardragons. Very good for Dragon decks, pretty good in Chaos decks that run dragons, a good hit but it won’t slow down the deck. Remember this in Lightsworn and Chaos Dragon? Seems so far away.
