I remember my Effect Veiler: Ultimate Rare, traded 3 Cunning of The Six Samurai for it, lol.

Throwback Thursday choice and a good one. Shame it can only activate in your opponent’s Main Phase, but it is a good piece of negation. She’s a Tuner, and that can come in handy if you are in need of a Synchro Monster. LIGHT makes it good chaos fodder and there is some synergy with it being a Spellcaster and Level 1. Searchable many ways, and even by old school means like Sangan and Witch, you can set yourself up for your opponents turn with it. If you could pitch her to negate during either player’s Main Phases it would be an even better card.

Throwback Thursday gives us a card similar to the card to open the week, and a card set to be in this slot before it was announced to be a Starlight Rare in ETCO: Effect Veiler.

Veiler is a Level 1 LIGHT Spellcaster Tuner with 0 ATK and DEF. Can’t really get onto a Level 1 about good stats, LIGHT is a great Attribute, Spellcaster is a good Type, and Level 1 Tuners are always handy. It’s lone effect is for the opponent’s Main Phase, making it a Quick Effect, where you can discard this card from hand to target an opponent’s Effect Monster to negate its effects for the rest of that turn. It is a pretty disruptive card, and it doesn’t have to be on summon. This helps against anything that has to activate on field, so then you can pitch Veiler when that effect triggers to negate it. It still works on summon as well, making the Quick Effect useful. It’s only during the opponent’s Main Phase, so they could get around that with their Standby, Battle, or End Phase more than likely. Not all effects are Quick Effects, meaning Veiler is a good option against those mostly. It’s still a great hand-trap that has stood the test of time since the Duelist Revolution days and has still seen on and off play in the meta. Proves just how good some hand-traps are.

Effect Veiler is a wonderful Throwback Thursday choice to compliment the open of this week   An older Hand Trap, and still quite a relevant one…and yet not, but still a great card.

A very simple quick effect lets you send this from your Hand to your Grave to Target an opponent’s effect Monster and negate its effect(s) until the end of the turn.  The Target pet is important  

But necessary, so such a powerful card can’t be able to neutralize every Monster, even if only for a turn.  It does have to be on their Main Phase, which takes a bit of the Trap away, but it makes you think too.

Plus she benefits from being a Tuner, if you so need or desire (and Light never hurts either) quite a versatile little card who has stood its test of time well.

This card is one of the the big three hand traps during a time when generic staples were still being put out. Between Effect Veiler, Swift Scarecrow and Battle Fader, though, this is the most relevant in modern play.

A Level 1 Tuner with a discard effect that can be easily searched and used for twilight decks; these are the things that keep people coming back for more from Effect Veiler.

The negation only works during the opponent’s Main Phase, but that’s still good enough to deal with something that targets or requires an unforgiving cost. The flip side is that it doesn’t risk being destroyed on the field.

The new Starlight Rare print looks good, but it’s still a boring card design. The wings look like they were an afterthought, and the generic glowing outline is just lazy when putting a subject on a separate backdrop.
