Electric Generator (Scarlet & Violet 170/198) is an item card that lets you look at the top 5 cards of your deck and attach up to 2 Basic Lightning Energies you find there to your Benched Lightning Pokemon in any way you like.
We’ve got another card that supports Lightning types, albeit restricted and relying on luck. I’m still not fond of those hit-or-miss cards, but Max Elixir (XY BreakPoint 102/122) has proven me wrong many times before. It’s not something you would rely on, but when it works, that’s great. If not, then it’s just one less card in your hand that could eventually be replenished by playing Professor’s Research or Iono. Not many decks run too many energies, so when the game barely begins and you have 40+ cards, you won’t find those energies as often. However, during mid to late game, when you dig through a lot of cards from your deck and you’ve used some energy recursion cards to put some energies from the discard pile onto your deck, then you might see more Lightning energies as often.
Based on decklists seen on Limitless, if they involve Lightning-types, you’ll usually see Miraidon-ex and they ran a full four of Electric Generator. That’s how important Electric Generators are for these decks. There isn’t many Lightning-based support in Standard, but Expanded adds many other cards not related to energy acceleration. I wonder if doubling down on 4 Electric Generators and 4 Max Elixirs might be too much. Still, being an item card means you can try your luck as many times as you want without worrying too much on whiffing.
