Elemental HERO Spirit of Neos – #POTE-EN001
When an opponent’s monster declares an attack: You can Special Summon this card from your hand in Defense Position, and if you do, it cannot be destroyed by battle. If this card is Special Summoned: You can add from your Deck to your hand 1 “Polymerization” or 1 Spell/Trap that mentions an “Elemental HERO” monster’s card name. During your Main Phase: You can shuffle this card into the Deck, and if you do, Special Summon 1 “Elemental HERO” Normal Monster from your Deck. You can only use each effect of “Elemental HERO Spirit of Neos” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Starting this week off is an effect version of Jaden’s ace monster, we’re looking at Elemental HERO Spirit of Neos.
Same stats as the vanilla version of the original, but Spirit of Neos can Special Summon itself when your opponent declares an attack. This kind of power reminds me of Magician of Dark Illusion (one of the many versions of Dark Magician) where you can Special Summon a version of the original ace monster during your opponent’s turn. This one is different as it needs an attack versus a Spell/Trap activation, and this one gets battle protection when summoned. Whenever Spirit of Neos is Special Summoned you get a free Polymerization search or a Spell/Trap that has an “Elemental HERO” monster’s name somewhere in the text. The poly search is good within a HERO build as well as other decks that run it like Frightfur or Tearalaments because of King of The Swamp. Running specific Spell/Trap that correspond with specific Elemental HERO monsters may not be the most advisable of moves, this effect can search pretty much any “Neos” fusion support card you should run in a dedicated deck.
Shuffle Spirit of Neos back in your Main Phase to Special Summon out any Elemental HERO Normal Monster you may be running in the deck, thus setting up if you searched out their specific Spell/Trap that you added the previous turn. With Spirit of Neos being a 2500/2000 that cannot be destroyed by battle, I’m not sure you’d want to trade it in for anything unless needing to go for a Fusion Summon. Of all the effects Spirit of Neos possesses, the first may be the best because of the generic search power and battle protection.
Spirit of Neos is something HERO decks could use. Another Polymerization search but in monster form that doesn’t immediately hit the grave and could potentially turn into something more depending on your HERO build. As it can Special Summon itself during your opponent’s turn, and search Polymerization, I’d like to see it used in any deck that runs Polymerization in a set, as it becomes a battle wall after being a searcher.

Time for Neos Week on the site with a new wave of cards to really make sure this archetype is better with all the downsides the old GX cards had and today we look at a retrain of Elemental HERO Neos as he now becomes Elemental HERO Spirit of Neos.
Spirit of Neos is a Level 7 LIGHT Warrior with 2500 ATK and 2000 DEF. Pretty solid stats overall, LIGHT is great, and Warrior is great. So first effect triggers when the opponent declares an attack, letting you Special Summon this from the hand in Defense Position and have it unable to be destroyed in battle, making it fairly easy to beam out onto the field with some protection. Upon Special Summon, as Konami seems highly aware we’ll never Normal Summon this, you get to search for any Spell/Trap that mentions an Elemental HERO card’s name or search for Polymerization. Mainly I imagine you’ll go for the Neos support, but I guess all those old cards for Avian, Burstinatrix, Clayman, Sparkman, etc. become a little more playable with this. Finally, during your Main Phase, you can shuffle this into the Deck to summon any Elemental HERO Normal Monster from the Deck, which is highly likely to be Neos himself. I do kind of wish this just treated itself as Elemental HERO Neos instead, but I guess Konami really wants us to play the old vanilla. Hard once per turn on each effect, as is the standard now. It’s a pretty good piece of legacy support to help out Neos variants of Elemental HEROs, as it gets you to all your Neos support and Neos himself. You could do things with other specific Elemental HEROs with this as well, but I don’t foresee that happening much. Solid card.

Hero week, eh? Despite how good (or not) some of these cards may be, my disgruntled face will remain through Friday. Elemental HERO Spirit of Neos is the same initially as the original, Light/Warrior (fantastic) with 2500/2000 atk/def, and Level 7. Free Special Summon when your opponent declares an attack, albeit in Defense position, but gains Battle Immunity. Both of those are certainly worthwhile effects, and the atk/def become less of a factor with Battle Immunity too. Free Magic/Trap mentioning an Elemental Hero in its text OR a Polymerization on said Special Summon, too, is a real great asset to the Deck as well. Lastly, he can cycle himself back to the Deck during your Main Phase to Special Summon a Normal Elemental Hero Monster (the original Neos?) from your Deck. Not your ONLY choice, of course, but likely your best one. This card does a lot of good things, and it does them well. Each Effect is Once per Turn, and I get that pretty much on all front here.

Art: 4/5 Neos looks about the same, but the background here is an improvement all cosmic and such.

GX fans get a wish granted; this week features the new Neos support in Power of the Elements, with Elemental HERO Spirit of Neos being this box’s mascot. Like the original Neos, it’s a level 7 LIGHT Warrior monster, which is pretty normal for an Elemental HERO. As always, being a Warrior is a special privilege in Yugioh, as it is one of the most supported types in the game, and being a HERO makes it searchable by a whole heap of cards. Additionally, just like Neos, it has 2500 attack and 2000 defense, which are on the lower end for a level 7, but at least it keeps the protagonist flavor.
All of Neos’s effects are a hard once per turn (did you expect anything else?). Neos’s first effect Special Summons itself from the hand in defense position when your opponent’s monster declares an attack, making it indestructible by battle in the process. It’s not completely useless, as it could save you in a jam, though battle effects are not worth running alone. Neos’s second effect lets you search Polymerization or any Spell or Trap that mentions the name of an Elemental HERO (namely, most Neos backrow) monster if it’s Special Summoned. Notable cards to grab are Instant Contact and the currently unreleased EN Shuffle, which we aren’t covering this week, but I’ll get to the former. Neos’s last effect lets you shuffle it back into the deck during the Main Phase to Special Summon any Neo Spacian or the original Elemental HERO Neos. Between this effect and Instant Contact, you can summon Neo-Spacian Marine Dolphin then Contact Fuse right into Elemental HERO Marine Neos, ripping two cards from your opponent’s hand. Though this is an excellent and much-needed Neos card, it’s a little awkward to integrate into HERO decks proper since its Special Summon effect only trigger during the Battle Phase. That’s a shame since it’s an otherwise powerful combo piece which you really want to use turn 1. Overall, a great card, though in context it’s still not enough.
