Fecund Greenshell might superficially look weaker than some other efficient and/or card-drawing green creatures. It’s certainly a little more conditional, asking you to build your deck with a certain type of creature; we’re not always used to that in recent sets. Even if you’re just looking at recent random creatures to put with it, you might run across a lot of 3/2 creatures designed to encourage attacking in modern limited formats. But of course, Bloomburrow itself has quite a few creatures that qualify, and there are plenty of others worth considering in Magic’s history; it’s very noticeable that you can fit it in a deck with Doran without stretching the manabase. It’s also easy to get distracted by the prospect of drawing lots of cards, and not notice that you’ll win plenty of games off its middle ability and the massive power boost involved.

The only wrinkle is that it has the exact same mana cost as Meandering Towershell, and it might thus be hard to play them together in the cute turtle theme deck.

Fecund Greenshell is certainly fascinating, in a sense. It’s an enabler for high-toughness decks (like Treefolk), but it’s not one itself. It’s a serviceable blocker, all things considered, and it’s effectively a cantrip with upside that extends the ability to more creatures. It’s also an anthem on legs when you get to enough lands, and that can definitely be scary. The main issue is that five mana, even in green, for what will usually be another set-up card is a tall ask; it’s not bad, but it feels like it’s a step too slow for most decks to really shine. That said, a 4/6 with reach can stave off a lot of things, and the anthem effect can win games on its own when you get there.
