And suddenly, things turned ugly.

All right, maybe five mana for this card is a little different from, say, Underworld Breach‘s situation. But one extra life per spell, to re-cast a bunch of spells that were already good once before, is a price that a lot of decks will pay eagerly. If you can ramp into it early and somehow have enough left over to cast spells, that’ll often just win you the game on the spot. Even if you can’t, the minimum it will do is getting extra value from your instants and sorceries, in a way that many decks simply can’t keep up with (and might cause their pilots to wonder how the heck they’re losing the game).

We haven’t forgotten about the cute animals and cosy fantasy themes. It’s more that the cute animals and cosy fantasy themes are so appealing, it’s easy to miss that Bloomburrow also has combo cards in it!

After a diversion through Ubisoft’s long-standing franchise, we turn to the plane of Bloomburrow, whose eponymous set has already gotten a lot of excitement from all corners of the internet. Festival of Embers is an interesting spell that bears semblance to some very powerful forebears, and I definitely think it’s worth talking about.

In effect, Festival of Embers is a permanent Past in Flames, giving you a second shot at anything you’ve cast (or binned). The cost is that it burns up your resources as they get used, and this definitely smacks more of an all-in sort of card…albeit one you can opt out of, if the fires get too hot. That said, playing this means you’re planning on ending the game soon, if not immediately.

I will say that this is a card that may make waves, but five mana is a lot. Still, there’s a lot to like, and this can definitely do damage.
