Going to throw things back a bit to the Virtual World arc and the Duel against the Big 5, looking at the boss monster they used first off: Five-Headed Dragon
FHD is a Level 12 DARK Dragon Fusion with 5000 ATK and DEF. We basically reach the peak of base ATK and DEF here, plus a great Type and Attribute to have for a monster. Fusion Materials are 5 Dragons, which is possible, you just won’t do it with Polymerization, most likely favoring cards like Dragon’s Mirror or Future Fusion instead. It must be Fusion Summoned, just in case back in the day you somehow got a Level 12 to tribute off with Metamorphosis or something. It also cannot be destroyed in battle with a DARK, EARTH, WATER, FIRE, or WIND monster, which for its only real effect, seems super redundant on a 5000 ATK body, especially since it can’t even protect itself from LIGHT monsters, who later on got Honest to make sure they could run this thing over. With all that said, this was useful once upon a time with pre-errata Future Fusion just sending 5 Dragons from Deck to grave for free, and you could use Dragon’s Mirror to get a copy out 2 turns early as well if you wanted. Now with Future Fusion errataed to be slower, I don’t really see a point of using Five-Headed Dragon anymore. He’s strong, but he’s almost win-more at this point if you’re going to use Dragon’s Mirror to try and summon it.

Both our cars this weekend-the nostalgia! One could argue that Five Headed Dragon, while never a GREAT card, has gotten more playable over the years…and one could argue there’s no reason to touch this card. 5000 attack (and defense, should the need arise) is massive. You need 5 Dragons to Fusion Summon this (Dragon’s Mirror gave this card some life once upon a time) and Battle Immunity to all non-Light attributes is definitely something awesome…again, especially when 5000 points are staring at you. The problem is/was, that this card has 0 protection, so it’s vulnerable to everything, outside of the attacks of course, and things very likely are about never attacking OVER this. So maybe that was the trade off. I’d have certainly preferred protection from about anything else (the Battle Immunity part is fun, but again, with that attack, this essentially becomes a 5000 attack vanilla). I wouldn’t fault anyone, I suppose, who can play this successfully in whatever Dragon build they’re using, but I also probably wouldn’t consider it a viable option.
Rating: 1.75/5
Art: 5/5 Can’t not like that picture though
