Flip 7 Card Game

Flip 7 is a new Press-Your-Luck card game from Eric Olsen and The Op Games.  Flip 7 is a breeze to learn, and fun to play.  Flip 7 plays well with small and large groups.  You can play this with up-to 18 people straight out the box!

What’s in the box?

What’s in the box?

This box is small and portable, measuring at 8″ x 6″ x 1″.  The box contains one large deck of 94 cards.  The cards are sturdy and have a nice linen finish.  You also get a small, well-written Rulebook.

There are 96 cards in Flip 7.

How to play Flip 7

It’s a race to 200 points.  Each round, you and your opponents take turns flipping cards from the top of the deck and adding them to your hands. The 12 is worth 12 points, the 11 is worth 11 points, and so on.  If you draw two of the same “number card” into your hand, you bust, and you get zero points that round.

The deck has a little twist to it: there’s only one 1, two 2’s, three 3’s, and so on. This means strategically planning your flips becomes crucial.  12’s are worth a lot of points, but there are a lot of 12’s making it easier to bust once you have one in your hand.

If you are lucky enough to Flip 7 cars into your hand without busting, you score an additional 15 bonus points that round.

Pulling off a perfect Flip 7!

Special Cards: The X-Factor

The core mechanic is fun, but extra excitement comes from the special cards sprinkled throughout the deck. These can force your opponent to Take Three cards, or Freeze their hand, or even give you a Second Chance if you bust.  Special Cards add a chaotic element, keeping every round unpredictable.

Pros:

  • New Player Friendly: Rules are simple, making it a great pick-up-and-play game.
  • Strategic Depth: Deciding when to stop flipping and bank points requires planning.
  • Special Cards Spice it Up: Unexpected twists keep the game exciting.
  • Quick Rounds: Games fly by, perfect for fitting in a game night blitz.  Games really only last about 20 minutes in our experience.

Cons:

  • Luck of the Draw: While strategy is important, sometimes Lady Luck works against you.

Pojo Notes:

  • This game reminds us of Blackjack and Quacks of Quedlinburga game we reviewed a while back.  In Quacks, you are trying to build a large potion in a pot without exploding it.  If you are looking for a simpler Push You Luck type game, Flip 7 might be right up your alley.
  • Lady Luck is a fickle mistress!” This old saying really applies to Flip 7.  You can really hit spells of bad luck playing this game. You can bust on your first two cards, and it happens more than you might think.  This might be a turn off for some gamers.
