Character Bios: Martel

One of the Chimeras that joined Greed to get revenge on the military for what they did to her. She, Dolcetto, and Roa were part of the Amestris Special Forces, whose defiling of an Ishbal temple and killing everyone in it was the real catalyst for the war. Her unit was sent to the 5th Laboratory to keep them quiet, under the supervision of Basque Grand. There they became test subjects in Chimera research. Martel was fused with a snake, giving her enhanced agility, the ability to contort/move her body like a snake, and the ability to stretch her arms long distances.

When Kimblee betrayed the Devil's Nest, as Martel expected he eventually would, Greed, Roa, and Dolcetto each helped her get out safely while she was in Alphonse's body. She was one of the closest to Greed and idolized him for rescuing her and the other chimeras (in the Japanese version, after his death, Martel began calling him Greed-sama instead of Greed-san as a sign of respect). She was the only chimera in Greed's gang to escape the military. Martel meets up again with Al, who had become her friend while she was inside his armor while Al was kidnapped by Greed's gang, and traveled with the Elric brothers for a time. However, Martel quickly revealed that she had always planned to take revenge on not just Kimblee for the death of the entire Devil's Nest "staff", but the military for robbing her of her humanity, and the homunculi who set it up that way.

When the Elric brothers were taken to an outpost, she was hiding in Al's body until she saw Kimblee there. Martel revealed herself to Kimblee but her presence was kept secret from the rest of the military. Not trusting Kimblee at all, she followed him and found that King Bradley was planning another massacre at Liore. Martel tried valiantly to stop the Fuhrer, but during the fight his eye patch fell off. From her time with Greed, Martel knew the sign of the Oroborus and immediately rushed to tell Al that the Fuhrer was a Homoculus. In order to protect her, Al told her to get into his armor. It was there Martel died as King Bradley gruesomely impaled the chimera with his saber. Leaving Al horrified that Martel died inside his own body, and he couldn't do anything to prevent it. However, prior to her death, Martel lived just long enough to reveal the truth about the Fuhrer to Al.
