Basque Grand, Brigadier General

Brigadier General is in a somewhat unique category when it comes to playability. It's an 8-cost with decent stats and a very powerful effect, but there wasn't a leader that could play him at level 2 for a very long time.

When Dante was released, Basque could theoretically be played at that stage of the game. However, Homunculus Dante was clearly stronger, so Basque still wasn't worth much of anything. Frank Archer's
(relatively) recent release finally gives Basque a boost in playability, but there are still a couple problems:

1.) Frank doesn't have alchemy, so half of Basque's effect really isn't very useful.
2.) Frank doesn't have a 6-command, which makes him an underplayed leader as a whole.
3.) Basque needs food in order for his ability to be successful.

Personally, as powerful as Basque can potentially be, I think Veteran Alchemists is still a much stronger 8-cost, as is Big Bradley (Always on Duty), Vato Falman, Warrant Officer, and State Alchemists. There are just better options available, and with Basque's new shadow ally, he becomes more unnecessary.

Rating:
Sealed: 2/5 (It could potentially be useful, but I'd like to see him actually get played.)
Constructed: 3.5/5 (Useful, but really unnecessary.)

Darktaro

This week we're going to look at a character that doesn't always come to mind when you think of the Military faction and that is Basque Grand. So let's all take a trip back to the days of Premier to check out this week's picks. Today we're looking at Basque Grand, Brigadier General. He's got decent stats and his alchemy is always a nice bonus. His effect can be pretty brutal if you have some cheap soldiers to sacrifice, like starting Military Escort for example. Ultimately he falls just a little flat for one major reason. One of only two Basque Grand allies he has a severe lack of playability.

Being 8 cost you think he would go into most military decks that run 8 command, but oh wait Roy Mustang, Administrator raises the cost of allies by 1 so he can't go into that deck. His other 8 command, Friend of the Fallen is a hero so he can't go into that deck either. The same goes for all Hughes and Liza leaders both being heroes. What about villians you say? Well Frank Archer can play him at level 2, but with his lack of a 6 command level 1, many players may be turned off from him. The new Pride leader can play him, but since Basque Grand's only other ally is shadow, many people may prefer to play that version instead.

So when it comes down to it, only two leaders in the current military rotation can play him with ease, Frank Archer and Pride. He's not a bad ally but being so hard just to get him down to the table and there being other great 8 cost military allies (Vato Falman, King Bradley, etc.) he may end up on the sidelines for most decks.

Sealed:1/5-With such limited leaders that can play him, you'll most likely never use it.
Constructed:2/5-8 command non-hero Alex Louis Armstrong leader plz, k thxs!
