A Job Well Done

OP2005 - 4

Search Wits 5: If you win this location, you play the location next turn.

I decided to chime in with a couple reviews since there was only 1 review on Monday.

Wednesday's card is another promo card! By participating in FMA hobby leagues you can receive this card if you have the top amount of clue points that week. Since there are 4 copies of this card in a league kit you have the chance of winning one each week :D

A Job Well Done is another great location switching card. Locations being the heart of the game determine how your deck build is. If your deck build revolves around alchemy then obviously you'll be using alchemy locations. Even if you have alchemy locations, it doesn't necessarily mean that your opponent has alchemy locations. For example, Ed/Al decks can be based on alchemy and have alchemy locations, but if you're facing against a homonculus deck, it's more likely that they have wits locations or even strength locations. This puts your deck at a disadvantage.

One solution lies with the ability for you to play the location the next turn even though you have more clue points than your opponent. A Job Well Done allows you to take control of the game by allowing you to play a location from your pile instead of your opponent.

Since you know the locations you have help your deck, you have the advantage.

Some advantages:

- You get a location from your deck

- You can play it after meeting the goals for the location

- 5 wits is a relatively low event cost and can be played by a lot of allies and leaders.

- It's a misprint, the symbol on the upper left should be a wits icon :D

Some disadvantages:

- If you're losing in clue points, this card is a dead card in your hand

Some other similar cards include: A Clue for the Search (pay an experience to shuffle the location back into the owner's deck and you pick a location from your pile) and Roy Mustang, Master Manipulator (which switches the location for one in your victory pile), but A Job Well Done can be more versatile. Early in the game, it might not be wise to pay an experience and Roy Mustang, MM is a level 3 leader (not to mention a rare chase exclusive) and can take a while to get out, even with Policeman, Citizen of Linter.

With that said, this card isn't groundbreaking, but it's pretty good and can be used in almost any deck.

Rating:

4/5 for just about any deck

It's useful and can keep your opponent from gaining an advantage from their locations.

Wow not bad. I can see one or two splashed in a control deck missing slots.
You don't
want your locations you NEED them. So if you've all but one the site drop this for your own location. So that's it. If you really need your locations play this in your deck.

5 Strength Event

Search Wits 5: If you win this location, you play the location next turn.

This card might see some play.

Positives: Most of the time, I can win my locations but not my opponent's.
So, when I get in the lead, I have to sit back and wait for my opponent to catch up. And I also have to pray that they don't get more points than me before I get to play one of my locations again. But, with this card, I can win the location and play another of my locations right away. The 5 Wits isn't too hard to come up with in any deck, so you can fit this into almost any deck.

Negatives: If you're running behind in points, you don't need this card because you'll be playing the locations anyway. And even if you're in the lead, an opponent's "Master Manipulator", "Catch the Train", or "A Clue for the Search" can still play havoc with you. And this is an event, so it can be countered by "Edward Elric: Researcher" or "Pressure". And also, if you use this card to play the next location and the next location won't win you the game, that gives your opponent more time to play catch-up; and a greater chance at winning. And let's not forget, unless you've got a sure thing, your opponent might still be able to win the location. Meaning that you just played the card for nothing.

Still, if you play this card smart, it can be quite useful. Even if you end up not using the card for its effect, no deck is complete with Equivalent Exchange fodder.

This card gets a 3.5 out of 5 from me.
