Pojo's FMA Card of the Day

Iron Maiden
8 Cost Wits Event
May only be played by villain character.
Main Wits 8: Target player puts 2 cards from his
hand onto the top of his deck.
This starts the COTD week in which we review
some “staples” so-to-speak for the Homunculus
decks. Whether it is Envy or Lust, almost all
players who use Homunculus use these. Also, this
works for other decks…Basque Grand is a villain,
however he isn’t exactly a wits machine, Father
Cornello is also a villain he too isn’t a very
witty leader. Which again leads us back to
Homunculus.
The plus side to this is it puts your opponent
one turn behind, and also takes some of their
options away. Most players don’t run cards they
don’t need, so losing any cards in your hand can
be a big blow. However, it requires A TON of
wits.
Overall, this card is great for Envy or Lust
leaders, so-so for the other villains.
Casual Play: 5/5 There aren’t many cards that
will get a low rating in Casual Play.
Tournament Play: 4.9/5 It isn’t the best
Homunculus spell, but it is very, very close.

Iron Maiden-
In Fullmetal Alchemist, villains using discard
makes sense from both a flavor, and mechanics
standpoint. So it seems logical that a powerful
tempo and hand-destruction card would fall under
a restriction that it can only be used by
villains.
Iron Maiden is probably the most powerful "type
oriented" card available right now. With an
ability that generates tempo-disruption,
temporary card advantage, and hand destruction,
it is certainly powerful, and most decks that
can run it do run it.
Since this is "Homunculus Event Week" I should
probably discuss why this goes better in a
homunculus deck. Homunculus (Whether its Envy,
Lust, or soon Shou Tucker) is going to be able
to meet the steep cost of 8 wits on a villain
character (as almost all the characters with
high wits in homunculus are indeed villains) and
is also going to benefit from the additional
hand disruption of Nightmares and exposed.
Usually what I figure about this card is that
after you play it, your opponent is going to
hold back the cards the need in order to win the
location. After Iron maiden, I will typically
play Nightmares or Exposed as well, allowing me
to disrupt the cards that they would rather
keep, instead of the cards that they don't care
much about.
In other factions, Iron Maiden becomes a little
bit of a joke. In theory, Father Cornello could
theoretically use it, but it would be somewhat
difficult anyway. Basque Grand also has
difficultly with wits, so it's unlikely that
this card would be played there. I could see
Majhal playing Iron Maiden at level 3, but
again, who plays Majhal? None of these factions
would make great use of Iron Maiden.
Overall, because of both its power and current
restrictive-ness, I give Iron maiden a solid
ranking in hopes that it will at some point
become a more versitile card.
Rating- 4.25/5

Iron Maiden
Wow. As if the homunculus deck didn't have
enough hand control in premier. I must say if
your playing hand control, or even just regular
control with lust or envy, your probably playing
this. Even though it's a high cost there are
attachments like Lab Gear will clear that up
easily. I like this cards effect and playability
a lot.
4/5 for homunculus control
4.5/5 for hand control

Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden is a deadly two for 1 card. This is
like Nightmares little sister. Not as good, but
Iron Maiden gets the job done. Since mostly Lust
and Envy has high wits at lvl2, it does not
matter if the card is only able to be played by
a villain. this is a good hand destruction card
and it simply creates havoc.

Iron Maiden
May only be played by a villain character.
Main Wits 8: Target player puts 2 cards from his
hands to the top of his deck.
The first card of the day this week, and my
first card of the day review, is Iron Maiden.
Before looking at strategy, let's look at the
pros and cons of this card.
Pros:
1) Provides hand control
2) Playable by any villain
3) Its an uncommon
Cons:
1) Cost of 8 wits
2) Cards are placed on top of the deck, instead
of discarded
3) Your opponent gets to choose
Now, control in this game, like any other card
game, is a powerful thing, and this card adds to
the power of the Fullmetal control faction:
Homunculus. This team prides itself on being
able to control the board, as will be seen with
the cards later this week, and this card added
to Homunculus' arsenal. Being able to take two
cards out of an opponents hand can be fatal to
anyone, considering the new rule about only
being able to draw 8 cards per turn. Further
more, any villain can play this card. Basque
Grand or Father Cornello come to mind, as hand
control is a great thing that any deck could
benefit from. Another great aspect of this card
is the fact that it is uncommon, meaning that
getting three of this baby will not be a God
awful experience.
Although this card might seem great, it does
come with a few downsides, number one being the
cost for the effect. 8 Wits is pretty steep, and
with the cards not even being discarded, the
effectiveness of this card goes down a bit. Envy
does make this job a little easier (he can
recruit higher cost allies much earlier), but
that still subtracts from this cards usefulness.
Also, because the cards are placed on the top of
the deck and your opponent gets to choose, he
can place allies or less useful cards away in a
safe place, until he can draw them and then
spring a nasty surprise on you.
A few combos with this card are using it in
conjunction with the 7 recruit Gluttony or
Claire, Self-Less Benefactor to discard those
cards that your opponent placed on his deck.
Also, using the 1 cost Rose before using this
card can give you an idea if this card is worth
it and what your opponent will choose to
discard.
Casual: 4/5
Tournament: 3.5/5 (This card should be a
supplement to Nightmares in Homunculus decks,
not run by itself)
In conclusion, this is a nice splashable card
that should be run in villain decks
