While attacking, Maes Hughes gets +2 Wits and +2 Strength.

I think that this is arguably the best Hughes their is out there as far as allys go, but, it also depends on the deck, obviously, the mentor is best suited in an elric deck, but I think that the Dedicated soldier is the only one better in a military deck, mainly because in battles of alchemy against other people with 0 alchemy, if you attack with the dedicated soldier, he doesn't die!
