Pojo's FMA Card of the Day
MILLER |
Being the main
protagonist of the series, Edward Elric gets a
ton of cards printed about him. This is the
first level 1 Chase Exclusive of his however,
and while not necessary, it is pretty cool.
The first thing that you see is 6 command, its
pretty necessary nowadays, most useful allies
cost at least 5, and if they are out of faction
you have to pay a faction penalty, so that
requires 6 command. While Elrics can get away
with not having 6 command, they too can benefit
from it. Dropping Sig Curtis or Pinako Rockbell
turn 1 can give you a significant head-start on
most situations. Now, as far as effects go, his
isn't bad either. It allows Ed to attack someone
with the newly nerfed Challenge the Sun or
Alchemists' Duel and, pending his staying alive
after that battle, he can then attack again.
Now, sure this effect would be better at a
higher level, but its not terrible at level 1
either. It also allows you to set Edward for
Pomato, a new card in Seven Deadly Sins that
requires you to set 2 characters who don't share
any keywords to draw 3 cards.
In sealed, this is probably not that great,
since I'm not sure if there is a level 2 Ed in
this set, but if you can pull this and a level 2
Ed somehow, I say go for it. In constructed, it
is the optimal 6 command Ed, but the others are
far easier to come by.
Sealed 5/5: If you pull a level 2, use him.
Constructed 5/5: Optimal level 1, not easy to
come by though.

Today we’re
looking at one of the last few spoilers before
pre-releases this weekend. We’re fortunate
enough to get a Chase Exclusive in the form of a
level 1 Edward Elric leader. It is 6 command
which for most players instantly makes it good
regardless of ability or stats. Looking at those
two things however, we see that stats wise he
only loses 1 point of strength which shouldn’t
matter much in an Elric deck in the first place.
His ability is a nice bonus, but to me isn’t
something that is strong or game changing. Early
game there are not many chances for your leader
to get set. In addition, many decks focus on
getting out of level 1 as quickly as possible,
so you will probably hardly get a chance to use
his ability. Its one unique factor is unlike
every other version of Ed, this one does not
have the State Alchemist keyword, which doesn’t
mean much as you probably won’t be playing a
State Alchemist Watch or Suppressing Fire on him
from turn one. Sealed you definitely won’t be
playing this card, but consider yourself lucky
to have pulled one.
Pros:
-Another 6 command leader for Ed
-It is printed on the coolest template
Cons:
-Ability seems tacked on
Sealed:1/5-Unless you are playing booster draft,
you usually don’t want to be stuck in level 1
for your match.
Constructed:3/5-Nothing great, but nothing bad
either. Might see more uses once overlay leaders
come out.

Edward Elric,
Persistent
An Xe Level 1 Ed? Nice! A 6 command level 1 Ed?
Wow!
The moment everyone has waited for, a pretty
darn good line of Ed. And all Filmstrip!
Dog of the Military is still better to me, but I
can guarentee people who have this are gunna
play it if they want to waste their time on Ed.
Its effect really doesn't do anything (like DotM)
and has one less Strength, but who cares :p
Nothing really to say about it besides being the
first all Xe line, and decent for being so.
Limited: 2/5
Not very good unless you got Alchemist Duel or
something. But if its the only 6 command you
got...
Constructed: 2/5 (Its Edward, so instead of
saying 1/5 I'll point out my constructed ratings
arn't as a whole card pool, just the card's
specfic use.)
People usualy like Novice better, but I like the
6 commands.
Picture: 1/5
A meh picture with a meh character and I just
don't like him in the flashbacks. :p
