Envy, Copycat

Historically, Copycat was probably in the top three most powerful allies in the game. He efficiently reused some of the most powerful cards in the game, many of which provided incredible amounts of card advantage on their own. This strategy of recurring cards like Iron Maiden, Exposed, Persuasion, and their friends has been one of the, if not the most powerful, decks in the game, and Copycat was one of its main power sources.

Envy has probably been hit the hardest overall by the errata.
Researcher was barely even phased, Gluttony can still help out rebel decks, and there are a variety of ways Challenge the Sun can be used.
Envy's main power now has to come from cards like Gone Fishing, which although is decent (especially in a Lust deck), is not anywhere near the power that Copycat used to retain.

Envy now has several other options for allies that are still powerful.
My personal favorite is Envy, Just a Rumor, which can even harm Izumi's card draw, the drawback being that it can trigger Plan B.
Envy, Doppelganger is still powerful, and when it is used in conjunction with Foolish Pawns, it can be greater in at least one attribute than all of the opposing characters in the search party. The new Envy, Shadow is also a strong card, but it can only be used in Shadow decks effectively.

Ratings:
Limited: 4/5 (If you have the command, it's worth it.)
Constructed: 2/5. (Some power still remains, but there are other, stronger Envy allies.)

Darktaro

We continue this week with a look at Envy, Copycat. Pre-errata this ally was one of the most brutal allies you could play essentially turning 3 copies of a wits event in your deck into 6 copies of wits events. With it you could do such versatiles things, you could draw 4 cards in your turn with More. You could force your opponent to discard 4 cards with Nightmares. You could even win 3 locations in one turn with Catch the Train. Now that the wits events you can pull out have been limited to Battle and Search events only does that make this card unplayable?

It definitely does look a lot of versatility since Homonculus usually thrives on Main Phase control. By limiting it to only Battle and Search events it makes it more of an offensive card by being able to pull back your pumps/anti-pumps and battle changers. Depending on your deck you may not run many of these at all so Envy may be dead weight as far as his ability is concerned. One great combo he still works off of though is A Job Well Done. With the Seven Deadly Sins Advantage seeing more play now location control is getting harder to pull off and A Job Well Done gets around that.

So where is life without Copycat? One card that may see a rise is Envy, Just a Rumor, with more card draw with cards such as Pomato and Rock Throwers anti-card draw may be essential to ensure your opponent does not end up with hand advantage. Another old favorite, Envy, Doppelganger is also great kung-fu as it allows you to copy the highest attribute for the location battle.

Sealed:2/5-Being able to pull an 8 command Homonculus leader may be a bit hard to do
Constructed:3/5-Still has uses, but loses a lot of versatility.

MILLER

Envy is the shape-shifting sin of the Fullmetal Alchemist show, he can take the shape of anyone that he's seen, hence the name Copycat. Envy is one of the only sins to make it to the movie.

Copycat was the ally of choice in most, if not all, homunculus decks before the errata, but the errata has caused somewhat of a power shift. This ally is still great, but nowhere near as powerful as before, as it could reuse More, Nightmares, Exposed, and other ridiculously good main wits events. Now it simply able to reuse battle events and A Job Well Done. In my opinion, that makes this Envy second to Just a Rumor, with all the cool draw going around now.

In sealed, this ally could still be useful, because of the high stats and ability to reuse battle events can help in this format. In constructed, it takes more finesse to make this card work now.

Sealed 5/5: Reusing events can be huge.
Constructed 3/5: Took a power hit with the errata.
