Pojo's FMA Card of the Day

Envy is
probably the most limiting Shadow character.
Shadows are a great archetype, but it's usually
with a splash here and there to help completely
abuse Spooky Shadows. Althogh it can be negated
with Mother's Locket, why bother? His stats
really aren't very big, especially compared with
some of the Soldiers that Pride, Fuhrer King
Bradley, can drop. So, in short, he's really not
that great, and borders on terrible. The chase
has a nice picture though.
As for limited, he can be summed up in one word:
"unplayable." You are, unquestionaly, going to
have non-shadow characters, and probably a lot
more than just 1. That makes him worthless.

Friday
Our strange week
ends with a less strange card Envy, Shadow
Envy, Shadow 7 Cost
Homonc
Sin-Shadow-Villian
6/8/0
Envy gets -1 to
each attribute for each non-shadow character you
have in play.
Envy is one of
those guys that even though he's factioned one
thing, he's really another. Shadows are
currently ran by Pride, and compromises the most
Wit intensive deck there is. Envy compliments
that theme with a massive 8 for Wits. The
downside is he drops by 1 point if you chose a
non-Shadow to compliment your Shadow squad. If
you're including Envy in your arsenal however
you're most likely using a pure Shadow build so
there would be practically no -1s.
This guy is pretty
good, however outside of a deck built around
Shadows he's going to disappoint.
Constructed- 4/5 If
you haven't built a deck for him you're not
using him, so we can assume this specific deck
would be used.
Sealed- Two ratings
here:
1/5 If you're using
SDS as a mix in to other sets he'll probably
have no use.
3/5 If a pure
SDS draft you pretty much play Shadow or
Zealot and should get some sort of backing
for him in your deck.

Wrapping a look
at Seven Deadly Sins, here's a look at Envy,
Shadow.
7 Cost - Homunculus
Sin * Shadow * Villain
6/8/0
Envy gets -1 to all attributes for each
non-shadow ally you have in play.
Umm... What that last part? -1 to all attributes
for each non-shadow in play... Ok this deck is
great if you're Shadow allies to the ground...
But the moment you talk about having non-Shadows
on the field... very dodgy. To make matters
worse there aren't any positives to having
Shadows in play except you avoid getting sad and
sorry looking Envy. Playable? Yes. Is it worth
risking losing strength advantage? Maybe? Are
there ways around it? Marauder.
Non-Villain/Unaligned mob shadows... Very
unlikely to get on the field. Overall Envy,
Shadow will likely be a starter character for
you if you have the appropriate leader that can
downgrade her cost... Otherwise, you're
dismissing allies on the same turn you level up
for whatever leader you're playing.
To the scorecards....
Constructed: 3.75/5. It's -1 to all attributes
part might suck but not if you know what you're
doing. It's a strong ally nonetheless and can
still be played... To an extent.
Limited: 2/5. 90% likely you want to leave this
card off to the side. Otherwise if you're not
careful, this Envy can drop -1/3/-5 if you're
not careful and any pumps you have will have to
build up from that point.
Have a good weekend everyone. Grab some chalk
and slap some hands.

Envy: Shadow
7 Cost Ally
Strength 6,
Wits 8, Alchemy 0
Gets -1 to
each attribute for each non shadow character you
have in play
Constructed
Play:
Decent stats
for a 7 cost Homunculus, and if you intend to
run a complete Shadow deck this card is useful
for those stats. But the static ability on
Shadow is just anti-productive for use in any
other deck. It’s cheaper than Copycat and has
better stats, which is the only reason Envy:
Shadow should be in a Shadow deck. The other
Shadow allies out there really drive those stats
as being great. You get some toughness going
there and Spooky Shadows out in play and you’ve
got some great offensive capabilities.
Limited play:
If you can
manage to get a Pride Level 2 in your draft or
pull then you’ve got a great setup for a shadow
deck. There are enough common/uncommon Shadow
allies to make this Envy very playable even if
you don’t pull the level 3 Pride.
Final Score
Constructed:
3/5
Good for a
Shadow deck not good for Homunculus in general.
Limited: 4/5
It’s a good pull if you can get 1 rare to
compliment it, not bad for a Limited
environment.

The final
card we are looking at this week is Envy Shadow.
This is another ally that you're going to use
purely for it's attributes. At 6/8/0 it has one
of the highest wits for its cost, but at a
downside it gets -1 for each non-shadow you have
in play. There are two things that I don't like
about this card 1) To reach it's full potential
you need to run a purely Shadow deck and I think
at this point a deck with 100% shadows is not
that strong. 2) There are so many better Envy's
out there. Just a Rumor is great for anti-draw.
True Face is just amazing at what it can do and
stop. Even Doppleganger is good if you wanted
something with beefy attributes. So until a 100%
Shadow deck can be truly effective, Shadow isn't
that great.
Constructed: 1/5-Too many better Envy's out
there, Spotters fills the gap of a beef
Shadow ally.
Sealed:
4/5-Much easier to pull almost all Shadows
and with no access to other Envy's, it's by
default the best choice.
