Alex Louis
Armstrong, Expert Debater:
I'm fairly certain that we already reviewed
this, so I think I'll just expand upon my
earlier thoughts rather than subject him to
complete analysis. Expert Debater is really,
really good. He lets Military play absolutely
any event they want, and makes the rest of the
ALA leader stack playable. I personally think
he's the best military leader right now simply
because of this, although it is hard to lose
Strong and Beautiful, who's been a staple since
the promo version came out in premier.
In limited, he's very, very strong. Especially
if strength is being underdrafted, but I don't
think that is typically the case. Still, he
opens up a ton of possibilities for events, so
he definetly isn't bad.

People have
been asking for it for a long time and it's
finally here. An 8 command Alex Louis Armstrong
level 2 leader. Since his premier in Artificial
Human people have been saddened by the lack of
an 8 command Alex Louis Armstrong as Military is
probably the faction that gets hurt the most by
a lack of 8 command. Not only do we get an 8
command but he has a great ability to boot. He
can use his 6 strength to pay for any attribute
event. Which opens the door for some great wits
and alchemy abilities.Put a pair of Armstrong
Family Gloves on him and he can play even higher
cost events.
He does hurt in the wits and alchemy department
however so if you're going to make a deck with
him you'll probably want it strength based. His
low wits also makes him an easy target to
Homonculus control cards such as Lust, Torturer
and Mugear, Land Baron. However being able to
play Roy, Liza and Hughes all in the same deck
is always nice.
Constructed: 3/5-A tournament payable ALA is
always a plus, but he suffers from not being
equally good in all 3 attributes which Military
is known for. |

Alex Louis
Armstrong, Expert Debater
Human-Hero-State Alchemist-Soldier
Level 2 8 Command Military
6/3/3
Quick Strength: 2
Alex Louis Armstrong can use his strength to pay
for the attribute cost of events or abilities.
Well enough people whined enough to get a new
level two and here it is. The Armstrong that can
drop the big 8s of military w/o outside help.
What most people found lacking of the original
Armstrong lvl 2s. However, with the ability of
the original Expert Shadow, I was surprised at
the need for the introduction of a new one.
Anyway, my thoughts don't really matter in that
form so lets get back to the review at hand.
His stats are fairly poor for a level 2, a 3 in
both Wits and Alchemy is rough. The Quick
Strength 2 is decent, but its only going to help
in a Strength battle.
His greatness comes in his ability to use his
big 6 strength to pay for any of the big events.
Assuming its a normal military deck that uses
Hakuro, he has a base of 7. Given he can toss on
a couple attachments and have enough to pay for
practically any event out there. I see continual
talk of a Triple Threat Debater deck, but with
his inability to actually fight in any of those
attributes, I'm not sure how to go into it. The
best thing about him is he can splash Sensei's
Shadow and Catch the Train, which is kind of
nice. He can bring out Military's big guys and
stand back to Train them in. There are few
events and abilities he can't play with little
or no help at all.
Overall hes pretty cool, but not my favorite
Armstrong.
Constructed: 3.5/5- I'm still not sold on this
guy over Expert Shadow, but I will give him
credit.
Sealed: 4/5 if you can play him, you're probably
going to run the show with this guy and all his
event usablity. |

Friday - Alex
Louis Armstrong, Expert Debater
Welcome to the end of Sacrifice Leaders week as
we present the ever loving Alex Louis Armstrong
in his level two form as an Expert Debater.
Quick Strength 2
Alex Louis Armstrong can use his strength to pay
the attribute cost for events and abilities he
plays.
Ok. Not too shabby of an effect. Nothing to be
jumping for joy about but nothing too hurtful
either. So as long as he's a level two, any
abilities and events are check against an
attribute of six instead of three. So an Alchemy
8 event, played by Alex Louis Armstrong, can be
checked against a stat of 6 instead of 3 thereby
discard two cards to play it instead of five
(it's still considered an Alchemy event). Quick
Alchemy (discard a Alchemy event during the
battle phase to increase the Alchemy stat by
two) doesn't scream out play me. But again this
card is pretty decent to play. Use this card and
Momentum and you're good to go.
Let's go to the final numbers:
Constructed: 4.25/5 Slightly above average card.
If Alex Louis Armstrong is your leader, include
this one during your playtesting sessions and
see how he plays out. Obviously if all goes
well, have him replace your Expert Shadow or
Expert Motivator. Otherwise you can him out. But
he should definitely be in your deck if you have
high cost events that need playing,
Limited: 4/5. Again not too shabby and no real
reason not to play him since his ability can
actually help save your some cards from being
discarded. |

The final
Leader for the week is Alex Louis Armstrong:
Expert Debater.
OK the
initial info on the card: Level 2, 8 Command
with 6 strength, 3 wits and 3 alchemy. Not
wonderful alchemy and wits for a level 2
alchemist leader. But then most Military decks
are not too dependant on alchemy. What sets this
card apart for a level 2 ALA is his ability to
use his strength to pay for any event he plays.
Add into that some quick strength 2 and you have
an anchor to a rounded out Military deck.
The best
route here is to splash in a few alchemist
allies and keep the majority using strength, pop
in a Hughes for some wits and you can have all
your bases covered for battles. A few high
powered strength events like Piledriver allow
for a competitive deck without too much trouble.
In the draft
format this card is going to be tough to create
a deck with. First off it’s another rare so
drafting it will take a lot of luck and some
common sense to draft whatever level 2 you see.
Next there are only 3 Military leaders and 2 are
villains. So you’ll need to use two factions
just to make this hero stack work with few
problems. All in all there are far easier stacks
to build in a draft with this set.
Final score
Constructed:
3/5
This is a
good card for beginners to use but experts will
find many other options in the Military faction.
Limited: 1/5
A severe lack
of Military leaders makes it difficult to create
a decent stack.
