Zolf J. Kimbley, Mercenary:

Kimbley is this year's Veteran Alchemists, and he's pretty darn good.
Maybe not Veteran Alchemists good, but very good.

Quick Wits is a very powerful add on to have in both Military and Homunculus decks. In addition, sacrificing small, starting allies isn't a huge detriment, especially if it's only a bluebird. He has fairly high stats, and "Soldier" plastered right on as well, making for yet another bonus thanks to Hakuro. Additionally, he gets around Roy Mustang, Administrator, which is another place he can fit in. He's just a big, nifty ally. NOt amazing, not bad.

8 Cost Unaligned
Human-Soldier-State Alchemist
4/6/5

Zolf J Kimbely's cost cannot be modified.

Quick Wits: 2
Battle Wits Sacrafice an ally: Zolf J. Kimbley gets +2 to each attribute.

I like this Kimbley, alot. He can be dropped by any 8 command leader, he has some nice stats, and he has 2 built in pumps. Pumps took awhile to be a selling point for me, but about the time of AG I started getting into them.

Two decks make good work of him to me, Military and Rebel. Military tends to run the Quick Wits events and also having a few small allies to kill for his 2nd ability. Rebel tends to have the small allies to use his 2nd ability. His Wits can also help when you don't want to throw around your Bitter Memories/Test of Might/Militia/Raw Firepower/Etc for a turn, at a matching location.

Ratings:
Constructed 3.5/5- Hes pretty good, some decent stats paired with two built in pumps your deck can prepare for is always great.
Sealed- If you have some means of pulling him awesome, both effects are great here. You have weenie allies for lack of a choice of things to play, and alot of events are pointless.

The “Steel Talon Alchemist”

Today we have Zolf J. Kimbly: Mercenary

An 8 cost ally with a respectable set of stats, 4 strength, 6 wits and 5 alchemy. Quick wits 2 gives the card the edge to make it playable in some great decks. His cost cannot be modified which is a fine static ability since he is deserving of that 8 cost and would be too powerful if you could lower it. Finally mimicking his personality in the show he has the ability to sacrifice allies to pump his attributes by 2.

That’s enough to make most people want to use it, what makes this even better is that Mercenary is not a villain. So you’ll be able to add this card as a wonderful level 2 or 3 drop to just about any deck. Add a splash of alchemy to your Sin decks, pump some more wits into an Elric deck.

Final Score

Constructed: 4.5/5

This card simply rocks when used correctly. Even when used in mediocre decks it could pump the power level up a ton.

The "Steel Talon" Alchemist

Darktaro Today's card is Zolf J. Kimbly Mercenary. This Kimbly has the unique distinction of being unaligned meaning he can go into any type of deck. At 6 wits and 5 alchemy he fits fairly well into a deck focusing on either of those attributes. He also has a Quick Wits of 2 helping him further pump his attributes and in addition in a pinch he can sacrifice an ally to give him an additional plus 2 as well.

His passive ability is very interesting as well which is his cost can't be modified. While this does hurt his playability in say a Pride 7 command deck (although you'd probably use Master of Destruction for that anyways) a perfect deck that he fits into is Roy Mustang, Administrator since he gets around Roy's effect and is a solider to boot.

But does he fit into every deck? Elric I can see using him for his decent 5 alchemy, but they may want to stick soley to Elric allies for all the various Elric only events. Homonculus I can see using him, though Lunatic Prisoner is not a bad alternative since it is a villian as well. Rebel's could like him in a mob deck as they can bring back mobs with Claire Nurse and use them for Kimbly's ability, though his 4 strength is already pretty lacking in your typical Rebel deck. The deck that probably gets the most use out of him is Military since he's not a villian he can go into Hughes, Liza and Friend of the Fallen, Roy. And can fight fairly well triple threat which Military is known for.

Constructed: 3/5-Just because he can go in every deck does not mean he should, but Military Hero leaders should like this card.
