Hello Pojo Fans,

Why did it take two years to get Frightfur Patchwork to the TCG?

This card was what Frightfur/Fluffal players needed and it was during the height of the archetypes popularity. A cost free Spell that would get you the fusion card and other half of the fusion material all in one. It was a three in the archetype’s deck from its conception and the main card you’d cycle back into the deck or to your hand. Now with more Edge Imp monsters like Scythe, this card becomes even better. Scythe allows for shenanigans on your opponents turn, while a monster like Cotton Eater will net you a draw off a Frightfur Fusion summon. Edge Imp Saw can be used in conjunction with Toy Vendor, but really the two Edge Imp monsters you’ll be using are Sabres and Scythe. This card does so much for the deck with so little depending on the field or game state. Draw it, have a Fluffal and you have an instant Frightfur monster.

If only this could’ve been released when Frightfur/Fluffal were at their peak, but at least they didn’t have to wait long for a reprint.

Throwback Thursday has an insane card for the Fluffal/Frightfur archetype that we somehow never covered: Frightfur Patchwork.

Patchwork is a Normal Spell with the lone effect to search both any Edge Imp Monster alongside 1 copy of Polymerization (specifically Polymerization, not any Polymerization card) from Deck to your hand. It’s a +1 and a good one at that since it really helps you set up Fusion Plays by getting an Edge Imp, something all Frightfur Fusions require, alongside a Polymerization to actually Fusion Summon. It’s helpful considering you’re likely using less Edge Imps and more Fluffals with Chain, Sabres, and Scythe being the best Edge Imps to play and you not really needing more than 1 Sabres with its revival. Poly as well is just icing on the cake to really get you going. What makes this card even better is that you can search it off Edge Imp Chain, which is easy to send to the grave for said search to begin with. The only negatives are that you have to fetch from the Deck and you have to get both, making this a brick if you draw all your Edge Imps or more likely your Polymerizations, as well as it being a hard once per turn, which this would probably be unfair if it wasn’t. It’s a Pre-Preparation of Rites for Fluffals and it does great for the archetype and even sees a little play outside the archetypes for the plus for a free Link Material, or potential Fusion Material if the Edge Imp would actually be useful for that outside Fluffals, alongside getting Poly for your Fusion Summons. The card is great.

Most any Deck these days has a Fusion specific card (if not multiples) and this is a great one in Throwback Thursday for Frightfur Patchwork.  This is a Normal Magic that lets you add an Edge Imp Monster as well as a Polymerization to your Hand from your Deck.  This is an instant 2-for-1/+1 that should also immediately bring out about any Fusion of your choice from your Extra Deck.  The only possible downside I see is that you can’t get one or the other, the card says AND instead of or, so if you Draw this too late in the game, and/or one of the cards (likely Poly) aren’t in the Deck, this becomes a Dead Draw.  But with all the cycling this Theme can do, I don’t think that should be an issue most of the time.  Great for your Extra Deck and Fusions for the player.

Art:  4.5/5  Still pretty creepy, a bit more so than yesterday with more dark usage of colors.
