In our next episode of seeing who gets a retrain, we go back to an old vanilla Fusion and give it an Effect Monster retrain: Giltia the D. Knight – Soul Spear.
Soul Spear is a Level 5 LIGHT Warrior with 1850 ATK and 1500 DEF. Not the greatest stats on a Level 5, but being both LIGHT and Warrior is at least good. First part lets you Normal Summon it without tributing if you control no monsters, and while I’d like a better summoning effect than this, it’s better than having to sacrifice a monster for this. Upon Normal Summon, you get to banish a monster the opponent controls with equal or higher ATK than this card, so you at least get to take care of a bigger monster. Finally, you can discard a card to add a Level 7 DARK Dragon, Level 6 DARK Machine, or Level 5 WATER Warrior from your Deck to your hand, which is the most Joey thing I’ve ever seen as it basically is screaming at you to search Red-Eyes Black Dragon, Jinzo, or The Legendary Fisherman. Hard once per turn on the search, which is standard. Nothing about this card is really all that great. All the effects overall are fine, but nothing to make this feel like any sort of staple for any strategy. At least it’s better than the vanilla Fusion, unless you consider that is an Instant/Ready Fusion target.

Art: 3.5/5 Just like Kaiser Glider, I just like the original’s artwork better.

This card is already better than it’s Effectless, Fusion counterpart. Level 5, Light/Warrior, familiar atk/def at 1850/1500 as well. Cyber Dragon wannabe, where it can NORMAL Summon itself without Tribute if you control no Monsters. Which is…something…but I don’t know why’d you not just play something better and/or stronger to begin with. Normal Summon, though, does grant you the ability to remove an opponent’s Monster from play that has an attack greater than or equal to this. Optional, so if they control no Monsters, or none that fit that criteria, you aren’t forced or hindered into or from doing so. Secondly, a 1-for-1 Discard Effect lets you ditch one from your Hand for one of the following from your Deck:
Specifically:
A Level 7 Dark/Dragon (so REBD?)
A Level 6 Dark/Machine (Jinzo?)
A Level 5 Water/Warrior (Legendary Fisherman?)
If they could Special Summon, that would obviously be tremendously better, and as specific as they are, I don’t feel this could’ve been used or abused to the Effect or extent that it needs to be once per Turn, but that likely is to prevent Extra Deck abuse and or OTKs. It is nice how honoring to Joey this is, and even without the second Effect, it’s miles better than the original.

Art: 3.5/5 Giltia is certainly in attack mode here
