New Gimmick Puppet support is interesting to review after both Number 40 and Number C40 went to 1 each, but new cards to turn Gimmick Puppet into an FTK Deck starting with Gimmick Puppet Rouge Doll.

Rouge Doll is a Level 8 DARK Machine with 400 ATK and 1400 DEF. Stats are never the selling points to Gimmick Puppets, but a DARK Machine is always great. If this card is in your hand, you can reveal a Gimmick Puppet Xyz in the Extra Deck to Special Summon this alongside any Gimmick Puppet from the Deck whose Level matches the Rank of the revealed monster. Reveal Gigantes Doll to summon Little Soldiers to send a Level 8 like Dreary Doll to turn that to a Level 8 and instantly get a Rank 8 Xyz, or if you already summoned Little Soldiers that turn you can just reveal one of the many Rank 8s that Gimmick Puppets have to summon any Level 8 from the Deck like Dreary Doll, Bisque Doll, Cattle Scream, Magnet, etc. It’s a great way to help start or extend your Gimmick Puppet combos, especially since this is searchable off the archetype’s Link and their new Field Spell. Other effect triggers if it’s sent to the graveyard from anywhere other than the field, letting you add this back to the hand. So detach this as Xyz Material to add it back or send it from the Deck to the graveyard with Little Soldiers or Scissor Arms to add it back. Each effect is a HOPT and you can only summon Gimmick Puppets from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn, which is a fine restriction when your Deck can FTK. Rouge Doll is a pretty powerful support piece for Gimmick Puppets, getting itself on field alongside any other Gimmick Puppet in your Deck. If you don’t draw it or a way to search it, you at least got the ways to send it from the Deck to the graveyard to add this back to your hand. It’s an important combo piece in Gimmick Puppet you want to see, so play 3.

Quattro weeps! This week continues our Infinite Forbidden coverage with Quattro’s ill-fated Gimmick Puppet support, which rather disturbingly was just hit on the banlist despite only being played for a month. Gimmick Puppet Rouge Doll starts us off, a level 8 DARK Machine monster like most Gimmick Puppets, which is appropriate since most of their Xyz monsters are Rank 8. You can access it with Gimmick Puppet Chimera and their new Field Spell, Mansion of the Dreadful Dolls, as well as Gimmick Puppet Scissor Arms and Condolence Puppet thanks to one of its effects. Rouge Doll’s stats are extremely lacking for a level 8 monster, with a paltry 400 attack and 1400 defense, but I guess that’s normal for level 8 extenders these days.

Rouge Doll has two hard once per turn effects, and both of them will lock you into summoning Gimmick Puppets from the Extra Deck the entire turn, so don’t even think about splashing it in anything else (or I’ll know!). The first effect can be activated in your hand, revealing a Gimmick Puppet Xyz monster in your Extra Deck to Special Summon itself, then Special Summon a Gimmick Puppet from your deck with the same level as the Rank of the Xyz monster you revealed. Can’t get any simpler than this; reveal any of the Rank 8 Gimmick Puppets and you can bring out another level 8 for an instant Rank 8 Xyz, which 99% of the time is going to be their new Rank 8 monster we’ll cover later this week. Notably, Rouge Doll can summon itself from the deck, which you don’t actually want to do, but it is a possibility since your prime targets (Gimmick Puppet Cattle Scream, Bisque Doll, and Dreary Doll) are all technically garnets. It’s highly unlikely you’ll open all 3, but it’s a possibility! Rouge Doll’s other effect triggers if it’s sent to the Graveyard, simply recycling itself back to your hand. This effect didn’t need to be there, but like Water Enchantress of the Sanctuary, it’s fantastic for accessibility since it allows Scissor Arms and Condolence Puppet, as well as Foolish Burial if needed, to grab Rouge Doll and kickstart your combos. If you happen to open Rouge Doll, you can take advantage of the recycling by using it as discard fodder for Bisque Doll. Aside from the lock, Rouge Doll’s only real weakness is that it’s very vulnerable to Ash Blossom and isn’t protected by Mansion due to activating in the hand. Of course, some would argue that is an extremely necessary handicap, though probably not anymore now that the FTK is much more difficult as of the recent banlist. Still, absolutely run 3 copies of Rouge Doll, plus as many Terraforming and Mansion as you can. No less!

+Extremely easy combo starter for Gimmick Puppet
+Many ways to access and extend due to its Graveyard effect
-Very vulnerable to Ash Blossom
-Not protected by Mansion due to being a hand effect

Advanced: 4.25/5
Art: 4.5/5 The semi-realistic style is rather unsettling, but it fits the Gimmick Puppet theming perfectly.
