Gisela’s original card didn’t get too much attention in constructed just because of its high cost, but has had some appearances in Commander (still not as much as I think it deserves). This version of her, representing Emrakul’s influence, is somewhat reversed: her stats almost recall the efficiency of Baneslayer Angel and similar cards, even without the meld ability. But that aggressive sort of style is not always beneficial in Commander, and the meld trigger is harder to pull off without some serious shenanigans. Despite all of that, the Broken Blade has a lot to offer – starting as a borderline must-answer threat and including the option to go nuclear later in the game is something you can say about only a very few cards.

Constructed: 3.5
Casual: 5
Limited: 4.5
Multiplayer: 4
Commander [EDH]: 3.5

Gisela, the Broken Blade immediately will get attention for her meld trigger; while the main attraction is her ability to meld with her sister, Bruna, the Fading Light, she herself is actually a threat with a strong, aggressive statline. While that 3 toughness has issues in exposing her to common burn spells, Gisela’s ability to put up big life swings while being hard to beat in combat makes her quite the menace without her sister. Of course, her sister makes things especially scary, and given that Bruna’s comes-into-play trigger is a revive of another Angel (or Human), the meld trigger is one that might show up more often than you might initially think.

Constructed: 3.75
Casual: 5
Limited: 4.75 (the meld is unlikely, but she’s a massive threat)
Multiplayer: 3.5
Commander [EDH]: 4
