Crunch$G We end the week with the latest instalment into the Gizmek series, and one meant to coincide with other Gizmeks: Gizmek Uka, the Festive Fox of Fecundity. Gizmek Uka is a Level 7 EARTH Machine with 2250 ATK and DEF. Alright stats all around, EARTH and Machine go very well together. The first effect is simple as it just burns the opponent for 300 damage each time they Normal or Special Summon. No once per turn here, so it really punishes the opponent when they combo off and hurts if they need to pay costs with life points mid combo, especially if they were already low to begin with. Secondly, the rest of the effects of Gizmek Uka are hard once per turns. The first effect here is that it Special Summons itself from hand if a monster is Special Summoned from the Main Deck. Summoning from Deck is still something you see around, though not always seen due to how strong something like that is. Considering Halqifibrax is all over the meta, Gizmek Uka should be able to come down on the field with relative ease in all matchups. Other Decks could be weak to this effect like HEROs with their lone copy of A Hero Lives for example, or Adamancpiators with their excavation tactics, or Eldlich with their Eldlixirs. The second effect works on this card’s Normal or Special Summon to immediately summon a monster from Deck with its ATK equaling its own DEF and its Attribute matching the Attribute of a monster on field. This works easily with other Gizmeks of course, you’d just need the matching Attributes and as of this moment we don’t have one for WIND confirmed and WATER is in the next set. Another option for this is Barrier Statues, but those are only strong against Decks using varying Attributes, but it works against Halqifibrax if they aren’t playing Mermail/Atlantean to summon Barrier Statue of the Torrents to shut them down from summoning non-WATER Monsters then you Link this and the Barrier Statue into the Eria Link so you aren’t restricted, a combo that has seen a little bit of success. Gizmek Uka might not be the best of the Gizmeks we have so far, but it is one of the more interesting ones. I’m sure you could experiment with this to find a good way to make use of its qualities. It’s pretty cool. Advanced Rating: 3.75/5 Art: 4.5/5 Gizmeks look nice, but they can be hard to make out what’s going on with them in Secret Rare. They’re good Ulti candidates as the OCG has them all in Ultimate Rare I believe. |
Alex Searcy Gizmek Uka, the Festive Fox of Fecundity closed the week. Earth and Machine are fine, Level 7, 2250 attack and defense is odd and straight up, not great for a a Monster or this Level.
Your opponent takes 300 Damage each time they Special Summon a Monster. Which is…something, I suppose. I don’t see this card staying on the Field long enough to really hurt an opponent though.
This card can Special Summon from the Hand when your opponent Special Summons from the Deck. Easy enough to accomplish there. And also it brings out another Monster if Normal or Special Summoned. Which is cool.
Said Monster has to have the same attack and defense (equal to each other) which I think really hurts this effect, but it’s doable. But then there’s another needless restriction that the Attribute has to match too. This card isn’t bad, it’s just not particularly good. Effects involved here are meh, low attack, just not enough here.
Rating: 3/5 even constructed, it might work better in other theme or machine builds honestly
Art: 5/5 There’s a LOT going on in this picture. In the Gizmek and the background both. But I really like what I see on both

This is a great card, but what an unfortunate name. I find this incredibly playable in the Side-Deck and in Plant decks that use Black Garden. Mardel, Generaider Boss of Light is my favorite target, but there are others of course. I tried this in an Arcana Force deck, but the theme is too dated to be relative. Perhaps someone else can find use of it. Its ability to Special Summon itself is mediocre, but playable. As for the burn effect, it pairs well with Black Garden, as mentioned earlier. It is also a good late game summon if you get your opponent close to 0 LP. It has strict limitations, obviously, but if a card did everything all the time, the game wouldn’t be balanced at all. The art is good, but from a design perspective, the name is more of an annoyance than anything. Versatility – 2 I score this card 3/5. There is a lot to do with it, but you have to really take advantage of the opportunity as it presents itself. |
