Take my gold, but remember that it will be the bane of everyone so ever who owns it, even as it has been mine.
— from the Völsungasaga, translated by Roger Lancelyn Green in Myths of the Norsemen
I started playing Magic in an earlier age, a wind-time and fog-time when creatures were designed differently, so I still see a 4/4 with flying and haste as being worthy of note. Even in our cynical age, though, do you remember how good Glorybringer was in Standard, punishing sweepers and sending planeswalkers to the Hel-road? But Goldspan Dragon’s other abilities actually make me even happier. The Treasure boost is a beautifully red ability, a great answer to the doom-fingers that so many Magic players reach for and which have often overshadowed cool creatures, even if you don’t get to take advantage of his mana-doubling ability. But of course, that ability exists, and might well end up as part of a combo. (A word from the Hávi: the words “Treasure token” appear on numerous cards in Kaldheim . . .)

A hasty 4/4 with flying is already auspicious enough, but Goldspan Dragon’s true value is in the treasure it makes along the way. Shedding treasures as it swoops or is targeted can produce a lot of value, and it can turn a pile of treasure into a massive turn if it gets a chance to resolve. It combines a good body with a potent effect that can forfend a wounded position or accelerate a game out of reach, and it’s definitely proof that the right call sometimes is to swoop early and often.
