Throwback Thursday being on April Fools for a Rank 8 Machine archetype gave me the perfect card to have fun looking at: Googly-Eyes Drum Dragon.

Googly-Eyes is a Rank 8 EARTH Machine with 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF. Good stats for Rank 8, Machine is still great, and EARTH is probably a better Attribute for Machines. The summoning requirements are any 2 Level 8 Machines, so achievable but you don’t get too many Level 8 Machines for Rank 8 plays really. Once per turn, you can detach a material from this card to have it gain 1000 ATK until the end of the opponent’s turn. Considering the requirements, I would of liked if this was permanent. I don’t know why it has to lose the 1000 ATK, but I guess it already having the 3000 ATK makes up for it somewhat. If this card is destroyed while it has Xyz Material, you can banish a Super Defense Robot from your graveyard to Special Summon this card from the graveyard, then you can attach a Super Defense Robot from your grave to this card as material. It’s nice for monsters to have revival, it’s just unfortunate that it’s attached to you running a very undersupported archetype. Super Defense Robots don’t have terrible cards really, it’s just there’s only 3 of them and they all have mismatching Levels. If Super Defense Robots get more support, this might be more useful. Even then, there are still better Rank 8s that are generic. This is a cute and interesting card, and its revival isn’t a once per turn, so it’s something positive. Just this might be better in a more fleshed-out archetype.

Art: 5/5 It’s very goofy and somewhat charming. It’s funny the summon of it in the anime made it look like a Galaxy-Eyes for a bit before we came back down to reality.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Googly-Eyes Drum Dragon is the Throwback Thursday choice and one whose name I always got a chuckle from.

Machine-based Rank 8. Can become 4000ATK via material detach until your opponent ends their next turn. You like to see a carry-over in ATK boost if you can when giving it to a monster. Aside from that, GEDD is solely for Super Defense Robot strategies, resurrecting itself if destroyed with an attached material using Super Defense Robot monsters in your grave. How does this tie into Springans? Super Defense Robot Monki can Special Summon a Super Defense Robot monster from the hand. Special Summon Super Defense Robot Elephan, which then can make Monki Level 8 like Elphan is, and presto, Googly-Eyes Drum Dragon or tomorrow’s Springans Xyz monster. I wouldn’t use these monsters in conjunction with the Springans strategy, the Dogmatika cards are a better choice with their effects revolving around Extra Deck monsters and that helping out Springans.

Googly-Eyes Drum Dragon is a fun April Fools and Throwback Thursday card.  A Rank 8 Earth/Machine with BEWD attack and defense is a good start here.  XYZ Summon requires 2 Level 8 Machine type Monsters.  Once a turn this card can gain 1000 attack by detaching an XYZ Material.  A nice bonus for sure for a Turn, although changing a Monster from 3000 attack to 4000 isn’t that impressive   Likely 3000 was enough and it can be a nice push for a Turn.  It’s something.  If this card is destroyed while it has XYZ Material, you can remove a Super Defense Robot Monster from your Graveyard to Special Summon this back to the Field.  Very simple and easy resurrection here, so nothing not to like about that.  The card can be destroyed in Battle or by Effect, and by either player, so it should be coming back so long as it’s not removed from play in the process.  If you’re successful, you get to add a Super Defense Robot Monster to this card, also from your Graveyard, as XYZ Material.  The card isn’t bad, it’s just not good.  It doesn’t do enough.  The resurrection aspect IS nice, but all of this just to be able to increase an already high built in attack isn’t much.

Rating:  2.5/5

Art:  4/5  It’s comical enough.  The drum is fun or chest, whatever we’re calling that.
