Hello Pojo Fans,

Gouki the Giant Ogre wraps up our Gouki coverage for the week and it is fitting we end with this one.

The other Link 4, you’ll need at least 3 Gouki monsters. This card has battle protection built in and can’t be affected by monsters weaker than it. With 3000 ATK that locks out a TON of effect monsters that could easily deal with this card. If Giant Ogre gets targeted or any monsters it points to does, it can drop 500ATK for each effect it wants to negate. You could get two negates in before you may have to start worrying, but Giant Ogre is unaffected by monsters equal or weaker than it, so it will be protecting those it points to (2 max). An additional ATK gain of 1000 can be applied if you changed its ATK, but that gain lasts only until the end of the turn. Use this to bump it back up to save it from a monster’s effect if Giant Ogre is lower because of previous negations. Either players turn grants you the chance at two more negations that won’t hurt your overall ATK at the end of the turn.

This card is the boss of the archetype for a reason. It protects itself and the monsters it points to. It doesn’t help the opponent in any fashion, it makes it harder for them to destroy your monsters and it can save itself for the turn if it is weaker because of it helping your other monsters.

Art-4/5- Giant Baba is who this is based off of. Co-founder, president, promoter, head trainer, booker, and top star of All Japan Wrestling. He wrestled for 38 years and was the face of the company. To put it simply, he is what Vince McMahon wishes he could have been.

We end the week with the other Gouki Link-4 the TCG currently has, Gouki The Giant Ogre.

Giant Ogre is a Link-4 EARTH Warrior with 3000 ATK and arrows pointing Left, Right, Bottom Left, and Bottom Right. 3000 ATK is great, EARTH Warrior is once again good, and the arrows are great as you aren’t giving your opponent anything and it works well in either the Extra Monster Zone or Main Monster Zone. The summoning requirements are any 3+ Gouki Monsters, so Thunder Ogre doesn’t get you into this immediately, but you can go for a Link-2 Gouki then use one of them you linked away to search for Rematch to revive the Goukis and go for this. Master Ogre cannot be destroyed in battle and is unaffected by the activated effects of your opponent’s monsters with ATK less than or equal to this card’s. 3000 ATK not being able to be destroyed in battle, while nice, isn’t the most necessary but the monster effect protection is great as your opponent cannot steal this with Borreload Dragon, but Borrelsword Dragon can get strong enough to attack this as it gains ATK first, but at least Giant Ogre lives (kinda referenced the anime with Borrelsword and Giant Ogre as they clashed in the show, lol). When your opponent activates a card or effect that targets this card and/or a monster(s) this card points to (Quick Effect), you can make this card lose 500 ATK and if you do you can negate that activation. Sure this will then go down in ATK meaning it’ll be affected by more, but it does have an effect to make up for it, but the negation is still nice to have if your opponent is trying to get rid of this. You rather keep Giant Ogre on the field with lower ATK than it just be gone. Master Ogre’s final effects is that if it has ATK that is different from its original ATK (Quick Effect), you can make this card gain 1000 ATK until the end of the turn. Whether it goes up or down, you get a quick 1000 ATK boost which is great for making this protected by more monsters, plus it synergizes with the other effect of losing 500 ATK to negate a targeting effect. Sure the boost doesn’t last, but maybe asking for the boost to last is too much to ask for. Giant Ogre is another nice boss Link-4 for Goukis and one you most certainly run if you are playing the Gouki Links.

Art: 4/5 Sir, you’re in great shape, I don’t think you need that sword.

I reckon (said in my best adapted southern drawl I’m slowly forming living in Oklahoma) y’all saw this coming, but Gouki the Giant Ogre closes the week.  Link 4, 3000 attack, still an Earth Warrior, who requires 3+ Gouki Monsters for a Link Summon and has arrows which point to the direct left and right, as well as to the diagonal bottom left and right.

So, Giant Ogre has battle immunity, which is nice, but I always find it a bit odd when a powerhouse (3000 attack here) has such a thing.  But, the immunity continues, as it is unaffected by the effects of Monsters that have attack equal to or lower than this card.  That’s very fun, even if your opponent DOES bring out something more powerful, you just bring Giant Ogre at or above its attack, and its protected again.

Next, as a Quick Effect, when your opponent activates an effect that Targets this card OR a card Linked to Giant Ogre, by dropping 500 attack off itself, said effect is negated if you successfully dropped the attack here.  For a second Quick Effect, if his attack is different than his original attack, he gains another 1000 points until the End Phase.  Well now.

That helps with the initial protection effect, and his attack doesn’t have to be less than original, just different than, making the 1000 points much easier to obtain.  This card is quite good, and a sturdy, tough boss Monster for the Deck.

Art:  5/5  He’s a beastly brute, no?  I guess you’d have to be to wield that sword, but who needs all that armor and muscle, and a sword?
