Crunch$G We now enter the top 2 with the lone banned card on this list, well at least for now, Guardragon Agarpain. Agarpain is a Link-2 DARK Dragon with 1500 ATK and arrows pointing up and down. Ok ATK, DARK and Dragon are a plus, and the arrows are good for its purpose. The summoning requirements are any 2 Dragons, which is easy to accomplish considering how good Dragon Decks are. You can only Special Summon Dragons while you control this, but I assume you have a ton of Dragons anyways. During your Main Phase you can Special Summon 1 Dragon from your Extra Deck to an EMZ or MMZ that two or more Link Monsters point to. Fairly easy way to cheat out cards you probably shouldn’t be able to cheat out. The most common target when this was legal was Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss for some negation, but you could of summoned a Rank 8 that you could of put Number 95 on top of before that was banned, or you could get Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon in your Pendulum Deck. These cards should not be that easy to summon in as generic of a way they were able to summon, yet Guardragon Agarpain gave any Deck that used many Dragons access to these big Dragons. You had Thunder Dragons with actual Dragons in the Deck, Pendulum with Dragons, and we could of dealt with this in Rokket Link if this didn’t get banned before the Deck could reach full power. You can only Special Summon this card once per turn, which I can understand so you can’t Special Summon it, use it as Link Material, then revive it to a spot where it’ll be more useful, and if you figure out how to get two at once, it won’t matter since it’s a hard once per turn. They tried to balance the Guardragons, but they’re still very strong and this was the strongest, hence the ban. Advanced Rating: 5/5 Art: 4.5/5 They are still very beautiful Dragons. My #2: Guardragon Agarpain |
King of Lullaby Hello Pojo Fans, There is the card representing the archetype of Guardragons, rightfully at the #2 slot: Guardragon Agarpain One of the best Link 2’s in the game before being banned, Agarpain made Guardragons incredible because of what Elpy and Pisty set up alongside REDMD. ANY Dragon in your Extra Deck is available for summon each turn. Locking you into Dragons is nothing, as Agarpain was only played in Guardragons. You’d go about your plays, using REDMD multiple times in a turn, get Agarpain above a zone Pisty or Elpy pointed to as well and then you would drop something like Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon or Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss, maybe Five-Headed Dragon or any of the Borrel dragons. Agarpain got banned because of the easy Elpy and Pisty alongside REDMD got to it. Dragons only for Agarpain summon wasn’t hard for the deck, and getting a Main Monster Zone to be pointed at by two Link Points wasn’t difficult either. May decks started playing Dragon-Type Monsters to get to Agarpain and set this up so they could get a free Extra Deck Summon of a boss Dragon that would help cripple opponents plays. There were too many targets for Agarpain to pick from and decks that were Dragon-centric and not were able to make this and not lose too much in resources. It was hardly ever high risk and you got all the reward, that is why it had to be banned. Guardragons can still use their other monsters, but their big monster is gone and they haven’t been as dominant since. Advanced-4.5/5 Art-4.5/5 Until Next Time |
Alex Searcy So I went 50% on the list this year. Didn’t have this (or tomorrow’s card) on my list. Guardragon Agarpain…Link 2…This is still a Dark, Dragon, only getting a modest attack increase from 1000 to 1500, with arrows pointing directly above and below. Agarpain needs two Dragons for a Link Summon (as opposed to specific Levels on our prior Links this week). So, we still can’t Special Summon non-Dragon type Monsters, I’m still pretty over that as it’s no problem. We still have an effect to Special Summon a Dragon to a Zone that is pointed to by two other Link Monsters, and this time said Dragon comes from your Extra Deck, so we have every aspect covered here between today, Tuesday, and Wednesday, no? This is once per turn, and as we saw twice before, you can only Special Summon one Agarpain per turn. Free Extra Deck Special Summon are good, and this one can bring Pendulums into play for either effect with the bottom arrow, so that has some more versatility to it also. Between the three, you’re covered in everything. The Extra Deck ability probably makes Agarpain the most powerful of the three I feel. Rating: 4.5/5 Art: 5/5 These Dragons have some very awesome artwork. This one has the best body, detail, and background of the three Links we covered this week easily. |
