I really do like this card. If you play creatures, it is a fantastic card to
do damage and gain an item. If you need an extra cauldron or a bigger wand,
you get it all in the same action as well as setting up a damage for each turn.
The possibilities are strong for damage using Tawny Owl too. I call this
move BirdSeed. With Draco-Slytherin out you either play a Moonseed or you
discard it any way. Now each turn you play Tawny Owl, grab the Moonseed, and
do the damage again and again. Hedwig can also be used for this, but you are
only allowed one in play of her, since she is ‘Unique.’ It is like having 8
Moonseed in your deck without having to heal and you can call upon it when
you need it 4 of those times (when Tawny Owl is in your hand that is.)

This has to be one of the coolest owls out there, aside from Hedwig. Items are a
big thing now with the new set, so getting those items back is good. If you're
playing an Owl deck, you'll probably have this card in there anyways, along with
the new Location that helps boost your Owls stats, Eeylops Owl Emporium. Since you're
gona be playing CoMC with this card anyways, you could use it to retrieve used Books
or Cages. Potion item decks are another great place to add this guy to. It's like
a Curious Raven with a bonus effect. =)

The Tawny Owl is a pretty cool card. It kind of works like a Hedwig, but
limits the card you can grab to an item. So, if you have an item worth
grabbing or are playing a weenie deck, this card looks like a winner. Sure,
it only does one damage and only has one health, but the possibilities for
combos and strategy is pretty strong with the Tawny Owl. I wouldn't rely on
it too heavily unless you simply are going for speed creatures, but if you
happen to be playing items and creatures, I would say you would be going
amiss by passing this card up altogether. Graveyard retrieval is always a
good thing, or as i like to call it, Garbage Pickin' And some Items can
come in mighty handy. Hurting someone with a Moonsead poison and then
getting it back with your owl would be just darned cool. Or perhaps your
potion ingredients card or even that wand youve been trying to draw for the
past 16 turns :) all in all, i'd have to give this owl two thumbs up.
