Creatures with a health of 4 or more are much harder to discard from play
via charms-based removal. If many people in your area rely on such cards
for the bulk of their creature discard, then this can be a nice accompaniment
to the strictly superior Quintaped. If going that route, you should try to build
your deck so that every creature has a high health. However, given a choice
of using an offensive minded critter versus a defensive one, I tend to prefer
the former, as pressure wins games. With many players using transfiguration
spells to knock out creatures, your emphasis on tougher creatures might not
pay any benefits.

A 2/4 creature for 5 CoMC...When you have Marble Gargoyle that is 2/3, but
can get up to 5/3 for the same lesson cost. And, you have other creatures
that do more damage at the same lesson cost, Mandrake, Cunning Fox and
Slytherin Serpent. Not that good of a creature, but I can see uses for
it...It survives Stream of Flames and Bewitched Snowball ;)

This card is very similar to Quintaped but it has 4 health instead of 5.
Same rarity which is an uncommon card but the difference in 2 sets only
meaning you can play 8 2/4 creatures <-- if you count quintaped. Seems to be
a distant cousin in my opinion. Though it has one less health it is still
able to last a hit or 2 from doxy , streeler or even stream of flames.

It seems most creatures for 5 power do more damage then Manticore, but generally
have less health. But if you play Manticore for the large health, Quintaped would
be a much better choice. Still uncommon and costing 5 power, it does everything
Manticore does, with an extra Health point to prolong it's survivability.
