An exact reprint of the old Stupefy. Back in the early days, when
the base set was the only one out, Stupefy was commonly seen. At 5
damage delivered, it sits on the high end of Charms spell damage.
Eventually, most players came to realize that the additional point
or two of damage this spell provided wasn't worth the loss of
flexibility in targeting opposing creatures that is given by more
popular cards, such as Stream of Flames. If block format play ever
takes hold in the Harry Potter card game, then I would expect this
card to make a small comeback. For those that don't know, Wizards
of the Coast (WOTC) makes a card game called Magic: The Gathering (MTG),
which is rather similar to Harry Potter, which they also make. MTG
regularly has sets come out in a pattern of one large set followed
by two small ones. That group of three sets is considered a block,
and there are competitions held that only allow people to play with
cards the belong to a group of three sets. Being a larger set,
Chamber of Secrets could be the start of a Harry Potter block format.
Or not. We don't know, because WOTC hasn't said. In any event, in open
play, Stupefy/Backfire represents an idea who's time has come and gone.

Hmm with this and the new password cards mono charms could become a
force to be reckoned with five guaranteed damage for six power with no
discard is nothing spectacular but it is not terrible. I would play this
and often do in my quick potions/charms deck. If you need quality spell
damage this is your spell.

I feel like I've seen this card before....I did, I did. Backfire is one of
those cards that only do damage. These days, that just doesn't amount for
much, you're better off with a Blue Wig, or perhaps even an Ouch! The idea
these days is to do damage and then get a bonus effect and this card doesn't
give you that. Granted its a nice little punch. But there are just better
options out there.

This set has quite a few "mimic" cards from old sets. This leaves the impression
that WotC may actually be putting thought into a tournament format and start helping
the game out alot. Only time can tell, but for now we go with the flow. Since Backfire!
is basically the same as Stupify, if you love Stupify, you'll love Backfire! just as much.
Since they technically have different names, you could have 4 of each which is 8 cards that
have the same effect. That is.. until they limit gameplay, but even then, some might still
play "old school" formats. :)

Is it just me or does this card give ya deja vu. Wow! its a stupefy!!!
people have been playing with stupefy in various decks since base set.
definitely not in all charms decks, but definitely not one of those
never seen cards like erumpent potion. 5 damage for 6 power... not bad.
