--------------------

Q: If my opponent played 'Peeves causes Troubles' and I'm using Harry Potter's special ability to draw two cards instead of one, do I get 1 damage or 2 damage per cards drawn during such action?

A: Each time you draw 1 or more cards, then you take 1 damage. Harry lets you draw 2 cards at 1 time so it's only 1 damage that you have to take.

--------

Q: Can I play Confundus if opponent has 0 cards in his/her hand (or Ollivanders with no item in discard pile, Mysterious Egg/Hagrid and the Stranger with no creature in appropriate pile, Avifors with no opponent's CMC lessons in play...)? I think there's no use in doing this with this set, but maybe later when there are cards that make you e.g. some damage depending on the number of cards in your hand and you might want to get rid of useless cards from your hand.

A: Confundus needs at least 1 card in hand, Ovilanders needs an item in discard to retrieve, Hagrid and Stranger needs creature to get, Afivors requires opponent to have CMC lesson, but for Mysterious Egg it says you "may" put a creature from your deck to your hand. That's the only way to play and not use because "may" means it's optional.

--------

Q: When I play Toe Bitter on my opponent and his/her Pet Toad (or Kelpie with at least 3 damage counters) in play, can Pet Toad/Kelpie manage to absorb both the damage it got from Toe Bitter and redirected damage from my opponent; or first the opponent gets the damage which he/she can redirect to Pet Toad, it dies and the 2 damage to Pet Toad just 'fizzle out'?

A: This is one question I plan to get answered at the WotC HP Chat this Friday. I assume that first the damage to opponent happens, and they decide whether or not the Toad/Kelpie will take the damage instead. If it took it, and was "fatal" damage then it would be discarded. Then the caster would have the option of which creature to deal damage to, if he wanted to at all.

--------

Q: Can I use the last drawn card from the deck and I loose when I have no cards to draw? Or I loose as soon as I draw the last card from my pile and I can never use the last card in the pile anyhow?

A: As soon as your deck count reaches 0, the game is over (no more cards or abilities can be played or used), and you lose.

--------

Q: How do you use character cards? I know you play them for two actions but once they are down do you simply announce using it's ability and then do it? And is this over and above your regular actions? Also if you have a number of characters down can you use each of their abilities on the same turn so in theory you could use 4 or 5 different abilities on the same turn?

A: You can use a characters ability any time during your turn after you've drawn your first card for the turn, but you must still be able to meet the requirments of the ability. Example: If you use Malfoy which uses an Action, you must have at least 1 action available. You can use as many character abilitys as you can per turn. If a character has a once per game ability, you can only use it once for the entire game.

--------

Q: When using Snape he is said to provide one potion. Does this mean I can play a potion spell even if I have no potion lessons in play?

A: Snape provides Potions Power. You can use it to play potion spells or as extra power for non-potion spells. If a card requires you to discard Potion Lessons though, you must be able to discard the right amount of lessons before you could play the card.

--------

Q: When a card allows you to get a specific card from the deck or discard pile are you required to prove to your opponent that you have indeed picked an appropriate card, ie if you announce you are retriving a creature card must you show the card to your opponent to prove it is a creature?

A: Most cards that let you get a specific "type" of card from your deck also have ".. show it to your opponent, and put it into your hand." on them somewhere so you do have to show your opponent. If the card doesn't say to show your opponent then you don't have to. When you get cards from your discard pile, you must prove to your opponent that you got the right kind of card because the Discard Piles are supposed to be public information and it's just a good habit to avoid arguements.

--------

Q: On my first action I play a creature and my second action I play steelclaw (all creatures do damage) does my newly played creature also get to do damage? Normally he would have to wait until the next turn.

A: Yes, if the creature you just played does damage, it also damages your opponent along with any other creatures you may have.

--------

Q: Are the cards randomly shuffled before play or does each player get to "stack" there own decks?

A: After you pull your Starting Character out, you must always shuffle your deck before drawing your seven card hand. "Stacking," in most cases, is an illegal practice used to give the "stacker" an advantage over the other player. Randomness is designed to be a factor this game.

--------

Q: If I play the phoenix feather wand which provides 4 charms power, am i able to play higher cost care of magical creatures cards if i only have one CMC card and my wand, plus the three charms cards required to use the wand (e.g. playing the mountain troll which requires 8 CMC when i only have 4 lessons in play but i have the wand providing 4 charms power)? or am i able to just play higher cost charms cards with a wand?

A: Wands and Cauldrons each give you a set amount of power. That power can be used to pay for anything, except discard costs. So if you had only 1 CMC lesson in play and at least 7 other power from somewhere else, then you could play the Mountain Troll.

--------

Q: I think the rule book is unclear on one point...is your deck supposed to be 60 cards including the character card (60 total) or 60 cards plus the character card (61 total).

A: Your decks are supposed to be 60 cards plus 1 card that is your Starting Character.

--------

Q: When you have your character, and on the character card it says that once per game, does that just mean you can do it ONCE, or can you do it at every turn?

A: You can only use those kind of abilities once for the whole game.

--------

Q: When I play another character than my starting one can I use both abilities???

A: You can use more that one character's ability as long as you can meet the requirements for each such abillity.

--------

Q: Early in the game I have played a creature card having enough lessons on the table to do so. Later in the game all my lessons have been removed but i still have creatures on the table. Question.. can the creatures still do damage?

A: Any creatures you have in play damage your opponent after you've drawn your first card for the turn. The number of lessons you have in play after you play it does no effect the creature (unless the creature says otherwise). So yes, they still do damage.

------------

Q: I’ve got a Pet Toad in play, and my opponent uses Stupify on me. Does the Toad only take 1 damage and I take the 4 damage left? How do I keep track of the damage anyways?

A: No, the Pet Toad takes all the damage and gets discarded. If the creature takes damage less than it’s health, you put damage counters on it equal to the damage taken. If at any time the creature has damage counters on it greater than or equal to its health, it gets discarded.

--------

Q: I’m confused about Steelclaw, because it says, “All your creatures do damage to your opponent”, but I thought that all your creatures did damage to your opponent anyway.

A: Steelclaw makes all of your creatures attack your opponent again when you play the spell. If you had 2 Ravens, for example, they would deal your opponent 2 damage after you draw your first card to start your turn. Then if you played Steelclaw, they would deal 2 more damage to your opponent right when you played it.

-----------

Q: Unusual Pets says, "Before each of your turns, your opponent takes 4 damage." Does that mean at the begining of both players turns? Please help.

A: Unusual Pets only affects your opponent at the begining of your turns.

-----------

Q: Let’s say you have a creature (Scottish Stag), and it has 3 damage on it. When you use ‘Fluffy Falls Asleep,’ does the damage just go away? Just like Scoop Up in Pokemon?

A: Yes, if a Creature with damage counters on it gets returned to your hand, and then you play it again, it’s a new Creature with no damage counters on it.

-----------

Q: For ‘Boil Cure,’ can you choose ANY card from your discard pile and shuffle it into your deck?
A: You can choose any 4 cards that are not ‘Healing’ cards from your discard pile and put them on the bottom of your deck in any order you want.

---------------

Q: If I have a card that needs you to discard 1 [Potion] lesson in order to use it (Noxious Potion), how do I discard 1 [Potion] from cards such as ‘Pewter Cauldron’?

A: If a card requires you to discard a lesson from play, you must have that type of lesson in play in order to discard it. Pewter Cauldron doesn’t count as a lesson, therefore you cannot discard from it; it only provides [Potion] Power, not lessons.

-------------------

Q: For Malfoy’s power, can you play the effect more than once during your turn?

A: Yes, as long as you have an Action available to use the ability, you may use it as many times as you wish.

------------------

Q: Does Hagrid’s power apply to EVERY one of your creatures that do 3 or more damage? Or is just applied to 1 of your creature?

A: Hagrid says whenever one of your creatures do 3 or more damage, that damage is increased by 2. So for each creature that does 3 or more damage, it gets the bonus effect from Hagrid.

-------------------

Q: What does it mean when a Character card says “Provides [Charms]”?

A: It means that it provides that type of power just like a Lesson. For example, if you have 4 Lesson cards, and that Character card in play, you could use cards that require 5 Lessons.

-----------------

Q: If I use the Draco’s Trick card on an Adventure card like Human Chess Game, which says for the opponent’s Reward “Your opponent may draw 3 cards,” who gets to draw the cards? Me? Or my opponent?

A: You do. Draco’s Trick basically changes it so that you get the reward instead of your opponent. If the reward refers to you, it refers to your opponent instead, and if it says your opponent’s it refers to you.

----------------

Q: When you are required to discard cards in order to solve an Adventure, does it take any Actions to discard those cards?

A: Nope, solving an Adventure doesn’t cost you any Actions.

-------------------

Q: Do I always have to draw a card at the start of my turn, even if I don’t want to?

A: Yes. Each player must draw a card at the beginning of his or her turn. There are no exceptions to this rule.

-------------

Q: It’s my turn and I just drew the last card from my deck. What happens now?

A: As soon as you run out of cards in your deck, you lose immediately.

----------------

Q: Do I have to use all of my Actions each turn?

A: No. You can use all, some, or none of your Actions.  However, once your turn is over, those Actions are gone. For example, if you used only 1 Action on your last turn, you can’t use the second Action from that turn on your next turn.

--------------------

Q: When I use Lesson cards to put other cards into play, are those Lesson cards “used up?”

A: No. Lesson cards stay on the table and can be used again, even on the same turn. One exception to this rule is if you have a card that specifically tells you to discard Lessons. For example, if you have 4 Lessons on the table, and 2 cards in your hand that require 4 Power (each) to play, you can use your 2 Actions to play them both (assuming the power is the correct type for each card).

---------------------

Q: I didn’t get any Lessons in my opening hand. What can I do? Can I draw a new hand?  A: No. If your opening hand has no Lessons, you do not get to draw a new hand. Remember though, that you can use an Action to draw a card. So, by using both of your Actions to draw cards, you just might get the Lessons you need!

---------------------

Q: I have a card with an ability that can be used only once per game. If the card gets returned to my hand and then I play it again, can I use the ability again?
A: Yes. When a card gets returned to your hand it forgets that it was ever in play before.

-------------------

Q: My opponent wants to know how many cards I have left in my deck. Do I have to let him or her count them?

A: Yes. Your opponent is allowed to count how many cards you have left in your deck at any time. However, your opponent isn’t allowed to look at what those cards are. Cards in your deck and in your hand are secret to your opponent.

------------------------

Q: I have a Character card that is neither a Witch nor a Wizard. Can I use it as my starting Character anyway?

A: No. Your starting Character has to be able to cast spells, so it needs to be a Witch or a Wizard. Any Characters that aren’t Witches or Wizards (like Hagrid or Nearly Headless Nick for example) can be played in your deck but not as a starting Character. Remember that you don’t need any Lessons to play a Character card, but it does cost you 2 Actions (unless you have Ron in play, then they only cost 1 Action).
