Pojo's HeroClix "Click of the Day"
WMNOE |
X-Plosion Spider-Man
So I did the wrong review the other day...so sue me.
I blame WizKids, really I do...they're the ones who have to have...let's
see...4 Spideys from IC, 1 from CT, 1 from XP and 3 from CM, that's a total
of 9 different Spidey figures. (10 if you count the promo, which I don't).
YIKES, that's an awful lot for one guy, even if it is Peter-Parker.
So if you check out the official WizKids figure gallery entry for this click
you get what's probably the LONGEST explanation for a figure that they've
written.
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/figuregallery.asp?unitid=3327
is where it's at. If you like this sort of thing, this explanation is
fantastic, because it gives some great insight as to how WK designs figures.
They wanted this Unique to be a more representational Spider-man, one using
his webs as a shield.
Personally I have no problem with that whatsoever, this Unique beats the
"Man-Spider" unique from Clobberin' Time any day of the week, and the sculpt
is way cooler than the IC Unique as well. The only way this figure is
diminished is that they issued yet another Spider-man REV in Critical Mass.
Lets get the particulars out of the way, 93 points, 9 clicks of health, 1
range 4 attack. Starting stats of 8 Speed, 10 Attack, 17 Defense and 2
Damage. I gotta come up with an abbreviation for that...hereafter all
reviews of mine will look like this. SSADD is 8/10/17/2, which is basically
what I just wrote.
Powers are Leap/Climb for all but one click, when you get Flurry, Super
Strength & Incapacitate, Defend & Super-Senses, and Outwit for the last two
clicks only.
I say this, too expensive for what you get. He's too well rounded to be any
force for clobbering. Not that I'm enamored of any of the Spider-Man clix so
far, I think they're all pretty weak.
But, boy does he have a great sculpt. There's three different Unique
Spider-man Clix available, the black costume IC, the "man-spider" CT and
this one. I think that pretty much kills the collectability of any
particular one, this one can be found for between $6.50 and $21.00. It gets
slightly better ratings because it's the newest one available.
My Ratings:
Playability 3 of 5
Collectability 3.5 of 5 |

M055mans Review
Spider-man (explosion)
History: Another heavy brand. Everyone knows the regular Amazing Spider-man
(Peter Parker) who does whatever a spider can right? Right. This version of
Spider-man represents him using his webbing to create a shield (used many a
times in the comics.)
Clix: I have always fealt that Spidey was dealt great injustice in everyone
of his clix forms, this version being no exception. Spider-man should have
Perplex or Outwit, what with all his random babblings and jokes all the
while fighting crime. Sadly, this one doesn't but it does have some pretty
mean powers under its belt. Spider-mans starting stats are 8 speed Leap
climb (good mobility) 10 attack with super strength (A really good combo
with Leap climb, will explain in a second) 17 defense with Defend (AWESOME!)
and 2 base clean damage. All that comes with 4 range 1 shot (yuck),
Unifiliated (Yuck) and 79 points (pretty decent actually). Well what we have
here is a first click wonder, don't push Spidey, you will deeply regret it.
His last four clix have outwit, after you see the black damage it would be a
good idea to run to a medic. His last click has flurry... don't even try to
use it. After 2 clix spidey loses his combo power (again be patient I will
tell you) to gain the sub par power Incappacitate at the same time gaining
Super Senses which is useful, but not as much as Defend. Anyways the combo I
mentioned earlier (I know I know your gunna just have to reread everything
now) that involves Super Strength and Leap Climb is a way of getting one of
those pesky stealthed characters parked on an object "un-stealthed" Read
directions as follow: 1) Anonouce (sp?) that Spider-man is making a move
action. 2) Have Spidey use Leap Climb to walk right up to stealthed
character 3) Use Super Strength to strip that character of there object, and
use the rest of your move points as you wish. As you can see this can lead
to tactical advantages sometimes, but if your jsut gunna do that than don't
use Spidey. Spidey's best click (first) has the awesome power of Defend with
17 defense, so just park all of your guys behind him and (its the best with
HSS) zoom out from the shield to attack if needed. Spider-Mans Outwit
probably shoulnd only be used as a "HEAL ME" sign and shouldn't make you put
him in the frey even more (the whole death thing.) Spider-man in Xplosion
sealed, is the BEST figure you can ever hope to pull. With a massicve 17
defense you can make it so your not so g reat other pulls cannot be touched,
all the while spidey is cleaning house.
Sculpt: Looks like he just avoided a deadly shot from the Green Goblin his
pose is SWEET! His paint job is completely normal and not at all special,
but hey is that really a bad thing?
Ratings:
Sealed: 5/5 (no matter what the points)
Constructed: 3/5 (Great for fun play and beginners)
Sculpt: 4.5/5

Best placed in a Sealed team =/
Verdict: Has its fine points, but I just expect better for Spidey =/
100: 2.5/5 at 79 he is a bargain
200: 3/5
300: 3/5 Any other spidey could do better here
300+: 3/5 Still not so great
Sealed/Draft: 4/5 He fits any team and has the package to back it up in.
Scuplt: 5/5 Arguably his best point ^_^
