Pojo's HeroClix "Click of the Day"
WMNOE |
Sandman
No, not the Neil Gaiman goth dude with pale skin and an entirely black
wardrobe. No, the long-time Spider-man villain who first appeared within the
first 10 issues of Amazing Spider-man. In his first appearance Spidey
subdued the Sandman with a vacuum cleaner! How’s that for originality? Sandy
was always a villain, even before he was exposed to the nuclear radiation
that gave him his powers. Along the way he joined the Sinister Six in order
to subdue the Wall-crawler once and for all. He’s since reformed, and even
joined the Avengers at one point. According to Whoclix, he hasn’t been seen
since being severely injured by Venom.
The Veteran Sandman comes to us from the Clobberin’ Time expansion, and has
a point value of 106. He has a 2 lightening bolt range 4 attack
(representing the ability to elongate his body in order to strike a hero)
and 8 clicks of health. Starting stats of 8 Speed, 10 Attack, 16 Defense and
3 Damage ALMOST make him a heavy hitter, and his powers, which include
Plasticity, Phasing, Incapacitate, Invulnerability and Toughness, also help.
He’s strong and has a plethora of powers, he’s just not quite up to snuff
for my needs. That 106 points is an awful lot for what you get, and that
just won’t cut it these days.
Vet Sandy is a level 5 rare, but since he’s not all that recognizable, and
he’s readily available, you should be able to acquire him for a couple of
dollars. One nice thing though, I love the sculpt that WK used. The mallets
for hands are an inspired touch, and really make this figure come to life.
In fact, one of the great things that WK does with their plastic characters
(i.e. Mr. Fantastic, Plastic-man) is that they put them in recognizable and
weird shapes. Kudos to WK for this one.
My Ratings:
Playability 3 of 5
Collectability 3 of 5. |

Wizkids really knew what they were doing when
they made this guy! Possessing
the Spider-Man team ability, two targets, an average attack, nice damage,
and
tough movement (Plasticity) Sandman must be used carefully. Don't take the
warning likely, folks, Sandman has the potential to be the center, but you
hafta
play your cards right, otherwise everything will come crashing down. By
right,
I mean a nice, cheap taxi to get him into position, some cheap range, a
REALLY good medic.
200: 1/5 You gotta be insane to try it here.
300: 2/5 Better, but not by much.
400+:4/5 At this point, Sandman is a support piece. Not at the 400 point
range, I mean more like the 600 point range. |

Yo, I'm here with a quick Spidey Villian
Review: Sandman

Reviewage: Okay, first off, this is the non-enemy version of Sandman, which
you can tell by his Spidey team affiliation! Wild-Card team abilities are
one
of the best in the 'clix universe.
He's a whole chuck of your team at 106 pts.
A range of 4 with 2 attacks is okay. His speed is 8 (tops) with Plasticity
and Phasing later on. I think those two are actually pretty good on this
guy. His attack is decent too at 10. He also has incapacitate, which is a
great idea when you think about it. Incapacitate, slide on over, Have
plasticity keep them there. His defense is almost to 'the perfect number'
of 18, he then has Invuln. and Tough. His defense doesn't fall too rapidly
either. Damage is decent at 3 with no abilities. His dial could have a bit
more color, but its okay the way it is.
The verdict: All around Decent. Use him to tie up some of the more annoying
characters.
100: n/a
200:3/5
300:3.5/5
300+:? /5 Go wild with an idea =/
Sealed/Draft: 5/5 Awesome here, a very pretty, limited worthy, character.
Sculpt: 3/5 Pretty neat.... |
