Unique Gladiator – 205 points
Moveability
- For 205 points you would hope that this guy doesn’t need
any help to get around the board. Well he does not disappoint! Try Flight
with a starting Speed of 14. Even though it drops pretty steadily after his
first click that 14 is simply amazing. Now throw in two starting clicks of
Running Shot, followed by 2 clicks of Charge (one with a Speed of 12, other
with 10) and he should easily be able to manipulate the board to put himself
in the best position to reign havoc.
Attackability
– First his Attack of 12 is nice and compares with other 200-point
characters out there. Its not as out of this world as, say Thanos, but then
it leaves points available to be used for his other powers and stats. Now
this is where he really blows away other figures. He has a Range of 10 and
combined with Running Shot he has an effective Range of 17 on his first
click and 16 on his second! For comparison the Sentinel only has 16 with
Running Shot on his first click. What I really like about Gladiator is
after he takes damage he goes from Running Shot to Charge. This is a great
combo in the fact that he can run and shoot until he gets tagged and then
Charge in to slug it out like a normal heavy hitter.
Damage – He
starts with a Damage of 4 on his first 3 clicks, before it starts to drop.
Now throw in 2 initial clicks of RCE and he can do 6 clicks of damage from
10 squares away. Plan wisely though because RCE cannot be used with Running
Shot so determine if the movement or the 6 damage is more effective each
turn. On his third and fourth click he has to make the same choice with a
combo of Charge and CCE. Both cannot be used on the same turn so use Charge
to move up and attack and follow up with CCE. You can also use Super
Strength, which he has for 7 clicks so if you can pick up an item use it
when you Charge to do maximum damage. Overall this guy has so many different
ways to bring pain to your doorstep. Be careful though because like Thanos,
his damage really plummets on his last couple of clicks. After his 7th
click he only can do 2 damage and has no way to hurt someone with
Invulnerability or Impervious without rolling a 12.
Defendability
– His starting Defense of 17 is about what I would expect for a 200-point
character. His first two clicks include Impervious, followed by three of
Invulnerability and then maintaining Toughness to the end of his dial, which
is a full 11 clicks deep. He will be the target of most of your opponent’s
attacks, but should be able to stick around for most of the game.
Miscellaneous
– I have to say his sculpt is a little goofy. That whole
flying forward-looking back thing is just kinda weird and his Mohawk is a
little dated. Still like Dormammu after a couple of uses people would
learn to fear him on the battle field.
Playability –
Overall with any figure over 200 points they really price themselves out of
almost any game under 400 points, though this guy has enough weapons that I
think you can build a solid 400-point team around him. His Running Shot and
Charge give him the flexibility to move and attack in the same turn, which
has always been the Achilles heel of my 206-point Dormammu. Overall this
guy is just a monster and on larger point games would be an awesome figure
to play.
Overall Score: (Out of 10. Score of: 4
= horrible, 5 = below average, 6 = slightly above average, 7 = great, 8 =
outstanding)
