Hellboy REV
The man with one huge hand is on our list for today! This piece was brought
to popularity by his badass attitude and hit movie. Not only is this a great
figure for collectors, but his strong dial makes him an excellent piece for
avid gamers too! Well, maybe not the rookie version at least…
The Rookie (73 pts):
73 points, an 8 attack, a 14 defense and a base 2 damage. Am I missing
something here? This price seems a little steep for a figure with such low
stats. Ah, I see it now! He is a wildcard! Still though, his 8 attack value
will drive most serious players away from this figure. Although his damage
holds close combat expert, it doesn’t do this piece justice. If a person is
brave enough to get base-to-base with Hellboy, he should make the pay
dearly, and this one doesn’t! A base 4 damage would have been MUCH nicer,
but we don’t get to this until his 3rd click…
The Experienced (87 pts):
This dial looks almost identical to the rookie. The only difference is the
higher attack (nine), his three straight clicks of close combat expert and
three clicks of super strength. The best part of this figures dial is his
4th and 5th click. His attack value jumps to a 10 and the base damage is a
solid 4. It’s a shame that these strong clicks weren’t offered as 1st, 2nd
and 3rd, but at least he has solid numbers on his dial – it just takes
awhile to get to them.
The Veteran (104 pts):
This figure is STRONG! He starts play with a 10 attack and even though it
drops for a couple clicks, it jumps right back and tops out at an 11 on his
6th click. The defense starts out slow, like all the other versions, but
this piece has an ability that the others do not – impervious. Sure, the
number is low, but impervious is so good, you cannot over look it. The
damage is a bit disappointing however. I would have taken a base 3 or 4
damage throughout the dial instead of being given close combat expert. With
the new rule of three, this ability ruins his potential on early clicks.
Overall:
Combine this figure with the Kabuki team ability or the Batman team ability,
and you have yourself an excellent figure, even with the low defense. You
might find yourself cursing the low damage, but you’ll be happy once he
takes some damage of his own. The addition of close combat expert hurts this
figure. I’m sure Wizkids thought it would be a great ability to give this
piece, but as far as game play goes, it holds him back.

We reviewed the Unique HB
back in October of LAST year, when Indy was still the latest and greatest.
It isn’t any more, but HB is STILL the shizzle…check out the review and then
come back…I’ll be here.

You’re back? Goody. Now
here’s the thing, if you don’t know WHO Hellboy is by now, you shouldn’t be
playing Heroclix. Normally I’m not a BIG fan of pieces that get stronger
the more they get hit, but hey, this is Hellboy we’re talking about, and
he’s worth it! BPRD is the Wildcard TA in the Indy U, so he can copy even
the Ultimates TA or the Superman TA for that matter. So his starting Damage
is only 2 – halfway through each dial he gets up to 4…take that! Add in
Super-Strength, CCE and the all important damage reducers, and HB is a
mother trucker! The Veteran is a staple of MANY tournament quality teams,
and is certainly still a viable primary attacker. The Exp and Rookie make
nice secondary attackers, though they are a tad pricey.
And now…

Pricing Commentary – WOW – Not a lot of auctions, but selling
for a NICE chunk of change. Makes me almost wish I owned the rookie so I
had the full set (I’ve got the Exp and Vet). HB is obviously the cream of
the Indy REV crop, and if you don’t have a set, you might consider picking
it up before the supply completely dries up. Indy was certainly
overproduced, but don’t forget, that everything sells out eventually.
