Today we have, from Icons, Braniac. This dude is a
Unique, and it’s the
third Branic we get, although I’m no sure of his
relation with Braniac 13
and/or Braniac 5. The thing I’m sure of is, only 5
was playable, and as a
cheap Outwitter/Perplexer :/ So, let’s see if this
guy steps up to the
plate. He comes in at a hefty 251. That means he
should be capable of stand
his ground against pretty much any character in the
game (Galactus? oh,
c’mon, when are you going to play a game with that
many points? :P) For
those points, he has 10 clicks of health (IMHO it
should be 11), 10 range 1
target, and it’s a Supes Enemy, as expected. Now,
onto the stats:
Stats:
Speed: 10, 10, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7, 7, 6, 6. Running Shot
the first click, then
Charge the following 2.
Attack: 11, 10, 10, 9, 9, 8, 8, 7, 7, 7. He has
Pulse Wave on the 1st, 2nd,
3rd, 7th, 8th , Super Strength for the 4th and 5th.
Defense: 17, 17, 16, 16, 15, 15, 16, 15, 14, 13.
Impervious for the first
click, Invulnerability the 2nd, 3rd and 7th,
Toughness all the other clicks.
Damage: 5, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 4, 3, 2, 2. 3 clicks of
Outwit, then 3 of RCE, and
then Outwit back for 3 clicks more
Analysis: He should have more Running Shot, and his
speed values are
unimpressive, but with them and that 10 range, I
guess it’s ok (although far
from special). Defense-wise, it’s just low for the
point cost. Most
beast-sticks (U Thor, U Hulk, KC GL, KC Supes, etc,
etc, etc) won’t have
much trouble to hit, and also he should have more
Impervious and
Invulnerability. I mean, his defense is a little
lower than KC Shazam’s and
KC Superman’s; and those are low already (those are
their much needed weak
points). As for the Damage values, well, I guess not
too bad. They aren’t
too high, but the Outwit and the RCE make up for
that. Finally, the attack,
the only reason you’d play him instead of others: He
has low values for the
cost, that’s undeniable… but he sports Pulse Wave on
the first three clicks;
specially the first, where his damage is 5 and he
has Running Shot, so he
can move for five then attack everybody within a
range of five and hit them
all with Pulse Wave for 5, and even higher if you
are using Perplex or ICWO.
That’s pretty awesome!
Conclusion: In Casual Play, try him out! I don’t
think this guy will see
much play in Tournaments, but with again, with Nova
Blast and a couple of
cheap Perplexers and or ICWO, he could take on a
whole team in a single
attack…
Ranking:
100 – N/A
200 – N/A
300 – 2/5 Not enough points. Any well balanced team
can take him. But he
stands a chance with Nova Blast.
400+ – 3/5 He’s overcosted, and there are other
characters stronger for that
price, but the fact that he can use Running Shot
combined with Pulse Wave,
and with Nova Blast he can’t be taken lightly IMHO.
