I’m writing this from the road and do not have an
Internet connection. My apologizes if anything is
wrong, but it shouldn’t be, because I’m nearly
completely perfect.
Today we will be reviewing SONGBIRD from the new
Fantastic Forces set.
WHICH IS THE BEST: The point difference and powers
between them all are very comparable and close. The
big difference is range, running shot and targets.
The Veteran has 12 movement with running shot and an
8 range with 2 targets. So the best is THE
VETERAN.
POINTS: 79, CLICKS 6, 8 range with a two targets,
Avengers Team Ability
MOVEMENT: 12 with two clicks of running shot. Very
solid opening running shot.
ATTACK: 9,9,8,8,7,7 opening two clicks of
telekinesis (perhaps the most utilized ability in
the game)
DEFENSE: 16,15,15,14,14,13 First two clicks and
last two clicks are energy shield deflection with
barrier sandwiched in the middle. Basically an 18
defense from a ranged attack.
DAMAGE: A solid three clicks for most of the dial
until the end when she drops to a 2 damage.
FEATS: I would keep her point cost low, but
Incontact with Oracle would still be okay. Upping
her defense to a 19 from a ranged attack would be
pretty tight. Oh and use the Thunderbolts card to
change her to Ultimates or Mystics or Batman Team,
or something else.
BATTLE FIELD CONDITIONS: Nothing, because it
depends on the rest of your team.
HOW TO PLAY HER: Running shot and telekinesis is a
great combination on the dial. No, you cannot use
them together, but they are still a great combo.
Songbird will throw all your attackers into the mix
and will still be able to get off a first attack,
because of her long range and running shot. Do not
be afraid to push her either, telekinesis characters
usually has to push to get that other attacker their
first shot. She will still have running shot even
when she is being pushed. Her low attack is a
problem so be choosey and pick somebody that you
will definitely hit.
HOW TO BEAT HER: You’re going to HAVE to get next
to Songbird to hit her. Sure a Thor or some other
character can hit her, but I don’t think you want to
waste his attacks. She is hard to hit, but with her
low attack she is easy to ignore for certain
characters, KC Green Lantern can all but ignore her
and eventually kill her.
OVERVIEW: The first thing you have to factor in is;
YOU WILL HAVE A TELEKINESIS CHARACTER ON YOUR TEAM.
So already you need her or somebody with her
powers. Jean Gray is the cheapest legal figure at
31 points and she is a one trick pony. Johnny Alpha
is amazing for 54(?) points, he gives you get an 11
attack, stealth, super senses and 8 range, but he
does not get movement. His big problem is he is too
far away from the battle to really affect it. A lot
of times he gets stuck and thus he might as well be
Jean Gray. The LE Sinestro is definitely like
Songbird, but costs a bit more and does not have the
awesome Avengers (Thunderbolts) change team
ability. Comparably, Songbird is definitely
playable. You are paying about 48 points more for
her then Jean Gray and she is just A LOT more
deadly. I like her, but she is still a touch over-costed.
Frankly a Jean Gray and Johnny Alpha Experienced are
less and you get more for them. Just because he is
not THE best option possible she is still a good
option and a well thought out character.
3/5 300 Point Game
3.5/ 5 400 Point Game
4/5 500 Point Game (You have the points and the
movement ability is much more important)
In draft she is amazing, because she is the only
telekinesis character in the set.
