Today we'll be reviewing Skymax from Super
Nova
So a clear Super Skrull in the comics is Skymax and
he is part of the Secret defenders.
Limited Edition: 120 points, Defenders Team
MOVEMENT:
Running Shot is a nice start. Flurry with Super
Senses and Shape Change is pretty darn nice.
Plasticity and Poison are great. Charge at the end
works well with Poison.
ATTACK:
Running Shot and Super Strength is a bad combo.
Super Strength should be used in this case to hold a
desk and increase your defense. 10 is a moderate
starting attack for the points. Incap is terrible
in this situation. Poison at the end is great,
including his offensive spikes.
DEFENSE:
Pretty much always high and Super Senses is really
predominate here. I wish he was front loaded with
Invulnerability instead of it being on two clicks
that you could just blow by.
DAMAGE:
3 damage is nice, but why is Shape Change not front
loaded. Close Combat Expert should work well at the
end.
SCULPT:
Clear figures are really cool…. tee he he.
FEATS:
Protected will make him more annoying. In contact
is the only thing you must have on him, because
currently hitting for 3 damage is just not enough.
Nanobots will heal him the entire length of the
dial.
OVERALL:
Annoying at times to try and hit, but you might just
as easily blow past his entire good clicks.
Low Damage
Low Range
Very nice defense
Well placed abilities
He would be better if his last click was his opening
click
Easily a Nanobots Candidate.
I like him, but he’s just too over priced. 120
points for a running shot character with 3 damage is
not that great. He has a lot of nice abilities, but
is not very well front loaded. I’m a big believer
in only playing front loaded characters and Skymax
is just that kinda figure.
Unless you like clear figures, I would not order a
Skymax.
HE RECEIVES 3 OUT OF A POSSIBLE 5
THUMBS UP!
Good, Bad, I’m the Guy with the Clix

So… Skymax, it is… what the… well, let’s take
a look at it, then you tell me what you think. The robot (I
think) costs 120 points. For that much, you get Defenders
TA, flight, no archenemy, 6 range 1 target, 8 clicks of
health and the following stats :
Stats:
Speed: 8, 8, 7, 7, 7, 6, 6, 6. 1st and 2nd clicks have
Running shot, 3rd and 4th clicks have Flurry, 5th and 6th
clicks have Plasticity and the last 2 have Charge.
Attack: 10, 10, 9, 9, 8, 9, 10, 11. 1st and 2nd clicks have
Super Strength, 3rd and 4th clicks have Incapacitate, last 4
have Poison.
Defense: 17, 16, 16, 18, 17, 17, 16, 15. First 3 clicks have
Super Senses, 4th and 5th clicks have Invulnerability, then
he gets a click of Toughness; his last 2 clicks have Super
Senses.
Damage: 3, 3, 2, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2. Shape Change from his 3rd
till his 6th clicks, last 2 have CCE.
Analysis:
His Speed is lackluster. Starting with Running Shot is cool,
but with only 8 and having a 6 range 1 target, he won’t be
doing much… still, better than nothing. Flurry is a best
follow up for Charge… but I guess that it’s ok after RS…
although Charge should be there, it’d be best. Plasticity is
best at the end, so you can run away easily. His values are
way too low.
His Attack is messed up. I don’t like figures which get his
best values at the end and have so-so values in the middle.
It doesn’t SUCK… but it’s not good. About his powers there…
Super Strength with Running Shot sucks.
Incapacitate with his range and targets (only 1) suck.
Poison doesn’t suck with either Plasticity (that allows you
to tie) or Charge (that lets you get
close) but in this guy can’t be used at its best…
His Defense is pretty bad. 17 isn’t bad, don’t get me wrong…
but it’s not too hard to hit, and when he gets hit he lands
on that click of 18 with Invulnerability (or at least, it’s
most likely), but there he can’t do anything… low attack and
damage…
His Damage is very poor. I expect a 120 guy to be able to do
between 3 and 4 throughout his dial without help, and this
guy can’t. He can hit for his max damage when he’s about to
go.
Conclusion: I don’t like this guy. I like straight-forward
figures, those which role is obvious. I don’t mind playing
tricky figures, but only if they are rewarding enough. This
thing isn’t; if you look at his damage you can easily tell
he’s not gonna be your 1st string attacker… but he’s no
support,
either: he hasn’t a TA that you wildcards can abuse, or that
can help teammates. He doesn’t have Outwit to pass through
defenses or hinder opponents, no Perplex to help friends, no
Support to heal (although I dunno if I’d care for that on a
120 figure), no Probability Control… so what is he? what’s
his role on your team? He’s just annoying. Your opponent
can’t entirely ignore him, since he’s not too easy to hit,
and his attack isn’t crap, so he can poke their figures for
some petty, yet annoying damage… but do you want to spend so
many points only to annoy?? The only way I could see him in
a team is if the idea was to lure your opponent’s guys with
him and then take them out with your other characters… But
it doesn’t take a super-brain to realize that strategy upon
seeing the team, so it probably wouldn’t be too good…
besides, if he does go down (and considering that you’d
probably put a Feat or 2 on him) you have just lost almost
half your team, right there.
Speed: Running Shot up front, Flurry is always good,
Plasticity is cool, charge at end is not that great
Attack: Good, consistent values all around, SS and
RS do not work well, Incap with 1 target sucks, poison can
work when used right
Defense: Alright, kinda average values with a spike
in the middle. Supersenses works nice and the mid-dial
damage reduction can help out. He is almost impossible to
heal.
Damage: Not great, but Shape Change can keep him
annoying and the ending CCE can help get that vinal blow in
The Good: Plasticity and Poison works cool
All that Super Senses
is cool
Shape Change is always a
plus
The Bad: 6 range is very limiting
Bad power combinations
1 target Incapacitate
Late dial charge is
useless
Feats: Don’t bother
Overall: This guy is not that great at all.
Actually, he sucks. His power combinations are awful and he
is not enough of a bruiser to really be a threat for the
long haul. He can stay in the game for a while, but I just
do not see him being a very useable piece in any
tournament.
