Mr. Terrific
Legacy

Rurouni KJS Thank you to the fan who requested this review of an older figure, Mr. Terrific from Legacy! I've wanted to review him for a long time. The whole REV set is pretty similar across the board, so I won't go into extreme detail with each version.

To put it rather bluntly, Mr. Terrific ISN'T so terrific, though, being flawed in all three versions.

Read on:

Rookie Mr. Terrific

boot speed

58 points

Team: JSA

Range: 4 x 2

Dial:

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figures_dials.asp?dialid=7924&unitid=6701&universeid=6

The Rookie is a relatively cheap Outwitter but is saddled with two expensive and near-useless opening clicks of Incapacitate, thanks to a cruddy 4 range.

Lack of opening Stealth to protect his meager 16 + Willpower defense nearly ensures he'll never be able to use those two targets. When he DOES get Stealth, he's lost his 9 AV and Outwit (or any support power) while being in easy Charge range of anyone he could Incap. He does gain Probability Control, but likely too late to do any good. And at only 5 clicks of life, he's not going to survive long if he has to do any actual fighting. Even at just under 60 points, he's overcosted.

RATING: 1.5 of 5.

Experienced Mr. Terrific

boot speed

72 points

Team: JSA

Range: 6 x 2

Dial:

The Experienced Mr. T adds one click of life and a boost to his range so his Incap might actually be useful. But his AV is still a bit weak for his cost, his Stealth is still buried on his 2nd & 3rd clicks, and PC still comes too late. He does gain Mastermind on his 2nd half, so it might pay to add THWART to this version of Terrific...on the other hand, he'll never be able to use it on his Stealth clicks. Essentially, the E has the same problems as the Rookie, but marginal usefulness gives him a boost.

RATING: 2.5 of 5

Veteran Mr. Terrific

boot speed

80 points

Team: JSA

Range: 8 x 2

Dial:

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figures_dials.asp?dialid=7926&unitid=6701&universeid=6

Now this is more like it. The Vet gains a point on AV on each click over the Exp and a range of 8, making him a rather potent Incap+Outwit figure at last -- he's like a lite NGN Iron Man at half the cost. And while he still lacks opening Stealth, gaining it AND PC for the next three clicks is a great improvement, making both powers eminently useful. Four clicks of Willpower give way to Mastermind and return of Outwit on his end-dial, making him trouble despite a very hittable late defense.

FEATS?

The lack of opening Stealth or other damage avoidance powers is his big problem, so address it with PROTECTED. (Do not run him without this feat, unless he's sharing a sky-high defense. It's actually quite thematic of his ability to fool foes into shooting his hologram double.) STUNNING BLOW is good on him as well. He's another fig that can benefit from IN CONTACT WITH ORACLE, but more than 20 points of cards on him is too much.

THEMES/COMIC ACCURACY:

The lack of opening Stealth is a bit inaccurate, as his first mission involved him infiltrating an enemy fortress hours ahead of the team. Feh. Otherwise his powerset pretty well reflects his genius intellect and his T-Spheres' ability to fight at range and project holograms.

IN SUM:

A little pricey for a short-lived, unstealthed (to start) support fig, but he's got the stats to work as a backup fighter in addition and just needs minimal feat help to be playable. Pair him with a higher-defense JSA teammate for best results.

RATING: 3.5 of 5. Actually, starting Stealth could've made him slightly broken, I think.

Today's review is Mr. Terrific from Legacy

Today we review the world’s third smartest man and chair member of the JSA, Mr Terrific.  He also has the ability to not be detected by machinery…it came in handy.

The rookie is an alright cheap support piece, and the exp is a nice upgrade, but for 8 points more you get a higher range, higher attac, and more probability control with the vet.  The best is the vet.

He is 80 points, 8 range 2 targets, 6 clicks of life, no AE, and a JSA member

Speed:  Hmm…why no stealth on the first click, that really hurts

Attack:  Not bad, not great, but the 2 targets is great with Incap

Defense:  When he gets hurt, he gets hurt bad, so be careful, easy to heal though

Damage:  Straight 2’s, but the outwit and probability control is awesome

The Good:  2 target incap

     Outwit and probability control

Mastermind can keep him from dieing

Stealth, willpower, double incap, and prob control is an awesome combo

The Bad:   Low defense numbers makes him a easy target

Can’t really do a lot of damage

     No opening click stealth

Feats:   Protected and Nanobots are all I would use

Overall:    On paper, he is a pretty decent click.  In reality, he is one of the most annoying pieces out there.  Anyone who has played a JSA team knows, Mr. Terrific is the backbone of those teams.  His powers keep him annoying, his long range keeps him sniping, and his ability to annoy is just so ridiculous it pains me.  The best to do on defense is to turn willpower off after the first click when you get hit and need to use protected.  This way, you can land on stealth and prob control.  Do not get hit off that first click for as long as you can though.  When playing this guy, keep him in the back, sniping when he can, and using his damage powers.  If your fighting him on a JSA team, do everything you can to take him out in one or two hits, you will thank yourself for it.  Overall, he is a pretty solid click, who excels in JSA teams, but is alright in other teams as well

Constructed/Unrestricted:  3.5 / 5
