110 points get you a decent flying brick of a fig.
With Super Strength and 3 damage for over half his
dial, he can deal it out. Running Shot at mid-dial
helps him stay versatile after he runs out of
objects, as do Psychic Blast and Exploit Weakness
later. And ending with 17+Regeneration is a welcome
surprise so he won't have to bother running to a
medic, while that
4 damage is trouble for opponents low on their own
defense.
FEATS?
HAYMAKER is an OK choice, especially to start with
since his best AVs are on his 2nd and 3rd clicks.
Even better on him than most characters is the
infamous IN CONTACT WITH ORACLE.
THEMES/COMIC ACCURACY:
This being Drax in the start of his mission to kill
Thanos, he's not the beast he'd later become. Team
him with his daughter Moondragon for themey fun.
IN SUM:
Not too expensive, Drax is a great fig for tackling
foes in his weight class and below. He can also take
it to bigger targets. Not bad!
For 58 more points than the Rookie you get a Drax
ready to rumble with a lot more Charge to complement
his SStrength. Starting Impervious is also a major
upgrade. In fact, one would be tempted to hold back
and let him snipe from range until the time is right
to Charge in. But his strength is close-fighting.
Mid-dial, his clicks of Toughness upgrade to
Invulnerability as his Attack sags to a steady 8 and
his damage to 2+Close Combat Expert. But it's his
ending clicks that impress despite mediocre AVs: 16
&
17 Impervious and Flurry! It will be tough for
opponents to get him off the board if he's deal his
share of damage to the other side.
FEATS?
FORTITUDE wouldn't hurt at his point value to keep
his damage reducers working. DAMAGE SHIELD works for
most of his 10 clicks. And again IN CONTACT WITH
ORACLE elevates Drax from good to great.
THEMES/COMIC ACCURACY:
I guess this is Drax the Destroyer at his arguable
height of, y'know, destroying.
IN SUM:
A powerful but not overbearing fig, he's the best of
the set. Just not quite tentpole-worthy.
The first thing you notice about the Vet is his
clipped wings -- no more flight! Then you note his
lack of range and far less damage reduction. So what
does he gain for only 16 points over the flying,
shooting and tougher Exp.?
1) Better overall AV. He peaks lower but never drops
below 8 and ends at a 10 like he starts. 2) Between
Outwit, Exploit Weakness, Blades and a LOT of Super
Strength, he packs the powers to deal his full
damage to any standard clix on any click he lands
upon. Pretty much any clix he ties up is going to be
KO'd unless they can break away.
FEATS?
NANOBOTS is OK on his 2nd half. SUNDER is decent,
too, as is UNSTOPPABLE. DAMAGE SHIELD isn't
half-bad. But
THEMES/COMIC ACCURACY:
Drax ditched the cape (which remains on the Vet --
boooo!), quit flying and started packing big knives
in Annihilation. Guess they worked, as he finally
whacked Thanos as he was created to do.
IN SUM:
A close-combat beast, Drax sorely needs taxi or TK
help to get to his target without taking fire. Less
damage reducers might retard his ability to deal the
damage he can against the figures in his weight
class that he should be tangling with.
Still...pretty much any clix he ties up is going off
the board.
Speed: 4 clicks of charge aint bad, but I would
rather see some running shot
Attack: Not bad, but falls a little lower than I
would have liked
Defense: Damage reduction the whole way through and
good numbers make me happy, tough to heal though
Damage: Decent numbers, not great, but the CCE can
make it high
The Good: 10 long clicks with damage reduction
8 range always helps
Charge and Super
Strength is always a good combination
The Bad: Movement still isn’t great
Almost impossible to
heal
Feats: ICWO, Shellhead, Protected, Haymaker, Large
Object all work on this guy
Overall: This guy is your basic flying brick.
Nothing great, nothing really bad about him either. He is
almost impossible to heal, but that late into a game, a 17
with impervious is almost unhittable. I like this guy, but
I might be more inclined to use more range friendly pieces
at this point. Not bad, not great, but solid.
Constructed/Unrestricted: 3 / 5
Sealed/Draft: 3.5 / 5
Overall: 3 / 5

Today's Click of the Day is
Drax
Veteran from Supernova
The veteran Drax is the newest
reincarnation from the Annihilation storyline. He grew
smarter, and started using knives in battle. A guy who
can destroy planets with one blow uses knives? And he's
called "smarter" for this?

Note --
This color = Combat Reflexes/Exploit Weakness
Speed
looks colorful. Lots of Charge and some Flurry.
The random Plasticity click can heavily affect
strategies. Numbers shrink below moderate speed over
time.
Attack
is proficient. I see a couple good 10's but that
is common sense for a 180+ Heroclix. That ending spike
won't be very devastating.
Defense
should be better. No Impervious? At least there's
a long line of other damage reducers. Ending
Regeneration can help.
Damage is below
par just like the rest of Drax. Too many twos and only
one 4. Hey, I'm just happy the 4 wasn't on his last
click.
Sculpt -- "Image
forthcoming". No idea if the veteran looks any different
than his other levels.
Drax can be classified as that big kid in
high school that thinks he's all cool but really no one
likes him. He starts off okay but after that he never
seems to pick up and get good again. I don't even
recommend a try at him. No feats, no nothing; don't
bother. Drax lacks.
