Today's review is Dr. Spectrum from Supernova

The rookie is kind of an overpriced support piece, and the vet is a little too expensive for a running shot secondary attacker, so the best is the experienced

He is 77 points, 10 range 1 target, 7 clicks of life, a flier, and a Defender

Speed:  In this rare case, I am glad that running shot comes after the first click

Attack:  eh, not great but TK makes him useful, EE is wasted with 1 target

Defense:  wow, 19 from range his really nice, barrier always helps, and toughness keeps him around a while

Damage:  Early RCE is cool, but overall the values aren’t great.  Click 3 is the only real time he is a good attacker

The Good:  Tk with high range and defense is always fun

      Good for a Defender’s team

Can be a good long range sniper

The Bad:   Damage values suck for the long haul

Barrier would have been so much better with a second target

Force Blast sucks and so does EE with one target

Feats:   Trick shot, Nanobots, and ICWO work best for this guy

Overall:   The reason I like the running shot second is because with a tk character, you are generally going to push.  Trick shot is tricky, because you get a very limited time to use it.  With a 10 range and flying, you will be able to use it for a long time.  He is a decent support piece, with limited attack potential.  If you can get to click three, then you can finally do some attacking.  He is not great, and Sinestro and Songbird are better choices.  Rookie Aleta is better too.

Constructed/Unrestricted:  2.5 / 5

Sealed/Draft: 3 / 5

Overall:  2.5 / 5

Today's Click of the Day is Doctor Spectrum
Veteran from Supernova

He's supposed to be Marvel's Green Lantern. While traveling through space, he saved the Skrullurian Skymaster and as thanks he received superpowers. I wish I was an astronaut.

He is 95 points; Flies; Defenders Team; 10 Range; 1 Bolt

Speed has bumps. Running Shot for three clicks is amazing but that 10 drops to a 6 sooner than you think. Phasing is perfect for medic flees.

Attack is decent. Wish there were more 10's. You can't really push him or he becomes an expensive support piece.

Defense ..only Toughness. Oh well, not everybody in Supernova can have Invulnerability and Impervious.

Damage should be higher for nearly 100 points. I like the Ranged Combat Expert. It shows he can hold his own while running from the battle.

Sculpt -- I'm just glad Marvel didn't go overboard with the Green Lantern mimic and call him Green Blue Red Yellow Lantern.

Doctor Spectrum feels so-so.  He's got okay stats but will he be successful as your 2nd attacker? Of course he will. The Doc can support while dropping energy beams. 10 speed is fast enough to even taxi another attacker in. I would put on In Contact to help his attack and damage. Nanobots is recommended too. Give Spectrum a go.

Doctor Spectrum rates: 3.5/5

Rurouni KJS Rookie Dr. Spectrum
wing speed
69 points
Team: Sinister Syndicate
Range: 8 x 1

To start, Running Shot, TK and Barrier give you the option of attacking with his OK 9 attack value + 3 damage, deploying your force or protecting them. But things slide downhill in a hurry from there as he gains 8 AV, single-target Energy Explosion and the ever-"useful" Force Blast on click 2. This means that unlike the ideal TK/Barrier fig, you cannot push him without killing his effectiveness. Without a high-AV teammate, he's not very good at all. At least a bit of mid-dial Toughness could prolong his agony.

Feats:
ARMOR PIERCING could help. But I wouldn't waste the points.

Themes/Comic accuracy:
Team him with other Squadron Sinister figs like the Rookies Hyperion and Whizzer for a decent and potentially effective theme team.

In sum:
A first-click character to the extreme, and not much of one at that. Again, I wouldn't waste the points except for the above theme.

Rating: 2/5

This would be an unqualified improvement over the Rookie but for the loss of front-loaded Running Shot.
But it makes his opening role as TK-deployer much more effective should you go that route. Alternately, with 10 range, 17 defense+ESD, and RCE he makes a right vicious sniper. Sadly, his AV tanks like the Rookie's by mid-dial, but at least you've gotten a few good clicks out him before then and you gain Barrier to help the rest of the team or to isolate whomever ventured near enough to actually hit him.

Feats:
Again, ARMOR PIERCING could fit. But by the time he needs it, his AV isn't hitting anybody. Just stick with Barriering, yo.

Themes/Comic accuracy:
Now no longer an evil Marvel doppelganger of Green Lantern, but a heroic MIND-CONTROLLING Green Lantern doppelganger! Team him up with EV Hyperion and Power Princess.

In sum:
Way better than the Rookie for those first 2 clicks.
Then, more of the same.

Rating: 3/5. Even so, a decent utility fig.

Welcome, at last, to oening Running Shot with decent stats. Not so welcome is having to push to TK again and the loss of that high anti-shot defense of the Exp. No, what's really key and makes this Vet so much better is a much steadier attack line. Use him as a sniper and he'll do well.

Feats:
ARMOR PIERCING, again? Might be OK late-dial in case his RCE is Outwitted, Repulsor-Shielded or Outsidered away. SQUADRON SUPREME is a good choice on a proper team thanks to his long range and improved AV.

Themes/Comic accuracy:
See Experienced.

In sum:
Too pricey for 2nd-click TK, not hard-hitting enough as a shooter. But not a terrible choice overall.

Rating: 3/5. Again, just decent.
