Veteran Black Panther

ANALYSIS:
Twice the price of his previous Veteran version,
Black Panther is a considerable upgrade. For
starters, he's the great fighter he's supposed to
be, with an 11 Attack Value that never slides below
9, where the Infinity Challenge vet PEAKED. His
three Blades/Claws/Fangs slot aren't all
front-loaded but are spread down the dial. He's as
much a thinker as a fighter, with double the Outwit
(4 clicks in total) and Perplex everywhere else,
including the opening slot. Like the IC vet, he
lacks natural Stealth and instead has a full dial of
Leap/Climb. But he's a wildcard, giving him much
more flexibility.
Defensively, he sports Toughness and Super Senses to
give him life in the fray, and his lone bare click,
his last, spikes back up to a 17 value.
FEATS?
He's a wildcard BRILLIANT TACTICIAN and could thus
boost any set of teammates whose TA he can copy in
the average unrestricted game. For Constructed,
you're going to want to use POUNCE and NANOBOTS: he
can use both on any click. If you don't want to
spend that much, VAULT is a wonderfully inexpensive
upgrade.
IN SUM:
He's only got one extra click over the IC Vet and
lacks the cheap Stealthed/T-Bolt Outwit boost that
the old Rookie BP offered. He's also missing range
and a dial full of 2 damage is unseeming for the
cost. But unlike those BPs, he's great on every
single slot instead of being a one-trick, one-hit
pony. Or pussycat, as it were.
RATING: 4 of 5. His support powers more than make up
for the damage and range deficiencies.

today's review is Black Panther from Avengers
The old black panther was one of the most abused pieces in the
game, a staple of the old “pit crews.” Back then his rookie
was cheap, had stealth and outwit, and had the avengers
team, meaning that Thunderbolts made him even better. Now
after all these sets we finally get a new one, will he be as
useable as his IC counterpart?
He is a rookie, 92 points, 0 range, 7 clicks of life, no AE, and I
think Spidey ally, but the site messed up and put him as an
Avenger
Speed: Full dial L/C means Pounce Ahoy!
Attack: Great numbers, and BCF helps 60% of the
time for him
Defense: Consistent numbers, toughness and SS can
keep him around
Damage: 2’s means nanobots, and outwit and perplex
means a lot of help for himself and teammates. I wish
Outwit was up front though
The Good: Outwit and perplex
High attack
Wildcard
Good defense
L/C helps him get where
he needs to be
The Bad:
No range or move and shoot
Needs feats to be really useable
Shallow dial
Feats: Pounce and nanobots are musts, he even
qualifies for Brilliant Tactician, but I have never really
found that card to be a help
Overall: The next time you come across KC Flash/GL,
use your pounce, perplex the attack to a 13, and a little
probability control can give you that great chance of a
first strike. Unlike most pouncers, his attack stays very
good the entire dial, meaning that once you are done with
one piece, you can pounce over to another one. Remember you
can’t use L/C and Pounce to break away and pounce again. I
do like this piece, and since he is so mobile, he will never
have a problem running to an object to nanobot back up. 7
clicks is not really that great, but with all the healin
back up you are going to do, you should still be pretty
safe. I find this guy to be a great harasser, and a real
team player thanks to his outwit and perplex. He doesn’t
need to use them on himself, so he can really tear up with a
balanced team. A TK will give him a true alpha strike
potential, but his dial never really craps out, so he is an
all around solid piece. Shang-Chi is pretty much the same
piece, for a much lower price. With all the feats he needs,
117 points might be a lot for some people, but that can
enable him to be the perfect secondary attacker in a 400+
point game. In 300, he is still good, but will take up over
a 3rd of your team to only be doing 3 damage,
unless you get lucky with BCF, which I never do.
Constructed/Unrestricted: 3.5 / 5
Sealed/Draft: 3 / 5
Overall: 3.5 / 5
“Heroclix….they’re cool, addictive, and available….the things
practically sell themselves.”
