Today's review is Zauriel from Justice League

 

No idea who this is, whoclix time…or the back of the card

 

He is a rookie(uncommon), 117 points, 6 range 1 target, 7 clix of life, a flier, JLA team

Speed:   2 of charge…not great, but at least high numbers

Attack:  Decent numbers, but I wish the 11 was in front.  Pulse wave and charge does not work, BCF could help on most of the clicks, EE is useless on him, and psy blast could be good for killing someone off

Defense:  Stays about a 17 the whole time, Toughness keeps him around, Defend can have him being useful, and Regen always helps


Damage:  Exploit weakness works with charge, and perplex always helps

 
The Good:  High defense

      Perplex

      High movement charge

      Decent attack numbers

      Defend could help

     

The Bad:  Bad power combinations

                Limited attack ability

                1 target EE

                6 range is limiting

                Low damage

                Short life for the points


Feats:  Protected and nanobots works best


Overall:  Alright, this is a tough call for me.  This is a piece that I would actually really like to use, he just is not that competitive.  He seems really fun, because his huge movement and decent attack can make that 3 damage go trough.  Defend can help, and perplex always helps.  He is just a secondary attacker though, and for 117 points that just does not work.  Use him only in higher point games.

Another fan request and we receive the long-awaited Zauriel. Did he live up to his anticipation? We shall see.

 Speed  -- I can't remember the last time we reviewed a figure with 12 speed and Charge upfront. And it only drops to an 8! Wow!

 Attack  -- Crazy spike going on here. I wish that 11 with Psychic Blast was switched with 10 with Pulse Wave, but it's still okay. The Charge and Blades combo will work wonders; just ask Sabretooth.

 Defense  -- Another high number: 18! Toughness I don't mind, seeing as Zauriel only cashes in at around 120 points. It's a coincidence that during this week two figures we reviewed have incredible defend numbers. Last-life Regeneration could land him anywhere nice.

 Damage  -- I already mentioned the Charge/Blades combo, but how about some Charge and Exploit Weakness? Ask Magog about that one. Perplex can up the semi-low attack values.

 Sculpt  -- My favorite sculpts are the ones with the giant wings. I'm going to make a team out of them.

 Feat Selections
~ Protected can make him harder to hit that first time. ~ Nanobots may come in handy since Zauriel has five clicks full of 2 damage. Now is the time to remake ~ Automatic Regeneration. I wish that wasn't retired.

~~ Try to limit the feats so that good price won't skyrocket. Zauriel is awesome. Perfect Attacker: he's fast, has great fighting powers, nice attack. And later on he can even become a Support/Attacking piece: Perplex, Defend, decent Taxi with JLA Team, while still holding onto Blades. Don't forget about the 6 range. He can fend off foes from afar. Go get a Zauriel.

QUICK ANALYSIS:
Great 18 DV, decent 10 AV and defense-cutting powers of Pulse Wave and Exploit Weakness make Zauriel a good first-strike fig -- he's like Vet Hawkman-lite on his first click. Perplex on his next few make him good for the team. Mid-dial sees his worst point, so push him without mercy to get rising stats for his Defend power and Blades. Last click is 11 AV with Psychic Blast and a chance at Regeneration. PROTECTED might be the key card for him to defend his soft post-Toughness clicks...or use NANOBOTS to heal from them to his first two slots.

RATING: 3.5 of 5. Doesn't have a bad slot, but just a tad overcosted for what you get.
