From the depths of the sea comes #4: Namor from
Secret Invasion. Reviewed in October, I gave him a
very high score (http://www.pojo.com/heroclix/COTD/2008/Oct/28.shtml).
Time hasn't changed that opinion. Here's why:
1. Charge + Flurry.
Part of his Avenging Son SP, this is the best power
combo in the game, especially combined with Super
Strength and his...
2. ...Natural 4 damage.
Which he's got on top AND end-dial. With the right
objects, he can deal up to 11 clicks of damage in a
single round on his first click...and even as much
as 8 on his LAST click! And his damage doesn't drop
below 3, either, which is good for...
3. ...A full dial of Flurry.
Whether part of SP or the red Speed power on the
Power and Abilities chart, he can punch twice a turn
all the time. Half of it's paired with Super
Strength, too, so Subby here has the ability to deal
6+ clicks of damage every time he attacks,
especially due to his...
4. ...11 AV.
Makes the above damage much more likely to stick
(again, even on his last click). Even better, it
spikes up to 12 and only sinks to a pair of nines
late-dial before arcing up to 11 again.
5. High DV.
Namor has more 18s than any other value, and only
drops to 16 by the end.
6. Flight, but taxiable.
He's a Dolphin speed piece, so he can be carried.
Meanwhile his Avenging Son SP grants Flight ability
for supreme mobility. He can't carry (that's a
separate skill that the Wing and Transporter symbols
grant) but that's an OK tradeoff for some of the
benefits to being a swimmer (SUBMERGED, anyone?).
7. GREAT price.
For exactly half your usual 300 pointer, he's a
fantastic tentpole yet cheap enough to fit on at
least one more grade-A fighter to back him up, even
if you add the Fortitude feat.
8. Defenders TA.
This doesn't seem so great, until you consider his
high DV and the fact that wildcards can now only
borrow DV from actual Defenders. Suddenly, he's a
decent support piece or can help a wildcard meat
shield taxi take fire for him more easily.
9. A shot a Regeneration.
On a map with water terrain, he can dive into it and
use his third SP "Aquatic Rejuvenation" to self-heal
back to some of his best clicks.
The original Marvel superhero, Namor is a great
Heroclix piece that's easily among the top five of
the year. When I want to deliver a straight beatdown,
he's one of the first I reach for, even before any
Superman. And now, with the physical realms
accounted for, the next on the list represents a
dimensional shift...
