Ya Betta Shop Around*
*(It's what my mama told me)

If you're a Heroclix fan, what place is better then one of the major Wizard Conventions? You have convention exclusives, hundreds of vendors and Wizkids running $5 Battle Royals. At any convention you can get what you're looking for, but at what price? I noticed one thing about the vendors at the recent Chicago Con, each one did alot of hard core drugs before pricing their heroclix. So how do you separate the Crazy Larrys from the Frugal Franks? Well....obviously I'm going to tell you...that or we can talk about your life for a change? You'd rather talk about you?!?!.....eh, okay. So what is,eh, new?...oh, really?.....You're mother huh?....and your girlfriend....that's alot of tin foil...................................you have a rough life....let's stick to talking about heroclix from now on.
Alright here is a list of prices I saw on certain figured thoughout the con to tell you the price difference between vendors
• Rookie LiveWire = $3
• Rookie LiveWire = 25 cents
• Hush $60
• LE Sue Storm $20 (In what world is Hush a more valuable peice then Sue?)
• KC Superman $120 (I assumed this one must be able to also cure cancer.)
• KC Superman $50
• Desaad $16 (So not worth it)
• Desaad $8 (See above)
• Desaad $5 (Again see above)
• Desaad 25 cents (Not really, but I wanted to keep the joke going)
• LE's starting at $20
• LE's 3 for a $1 (no, I am not kidding. 3 for a $1. I bought everyone they had)
Everyone gets the point, no prices are reasonable or sane. It should also be noted that a vender that has a values Hush at $3,000,000, using the same craz-o logic might sell an LE Red Hood for $3, because he's under 30 points. Now that you know that, the sad fact is shopping around it the true secret to a good vendor deal. Some vendors just sell high and other vendors think Heroclix come in ceral boxes. Move across the entire building before making your purchases.
VENDOR TRADING: If you're trying to get money from a vendor for your clix, I recomend two different things. Never sell you're clix as a collection, they'll always low ball you. Get a starting price for the collection, just to see if you're remotely reasonable. If they're on the up and up by your standards tell vendorman say you'll have to do this individually. Show him a figure and if he does not pass, ask him how much. If the price is good for you, give it too him and start on the next peice. He should be giving you about 40% of what he'll sells it for. 40% is a nice number to get if you want cash, $20 for a KC Supes is pretty common. If you're doing a trade you should get around 60% of what he sells it for OR if it is a really hot peice (KC Green Lantern or apparently Hush????) you could get darn near even trade.
My second recomendation is NEVER SELL YOUR CLIX TO VENDORS!!!! Selling clix is like gammbling. Sure you know the game and you know what should win, but when you play against the professionals even your royal flush loses. Vender are professionals at taking your "worth something product" convincing you it's junk and then telling the next guy "it's the new improved wheel." How could you attempt to win? The only advantage about a vendor is they're very willing to trade or buy without hassle. So if you don't like dealing with people, talk to a vendor.....because they're closer to sharks. Or do the smart thing and ebay your clix and use that money to buy clix.
Please not that BUYING from a vender can be pretty smart at times. They're nice people, but remeber what they give you for your Ares in cash is the difference between they're childs next meal. They're going to be smart everytime.
THE TRUE SECRETS: The value of Heroclix is all about desire. It's not that they made more Baron Bloods then Nimrods, but not as many people will trade a Nimrod....unless they have two. Think about this? How often do you value your second version of something? Not too much. You'll never play two Oracles. So when you're looking for good trades you need to find a place where players are getting duplicates of figures aka where they're buying and opening packs. Go to the battle royals, it's that simple. Play in them and trade kids for what you need. I pulled a unique Hush during a batlle royal, in less then two seconds somebody asked me if I would trade. My proper answer is always yes. If I pulled a KC Green Lantern I'd consider a trade....somebody might offer to trade their car or their girlfriend. Who knows, it's always worth a listen. The kid tells me he'll trade me a Sue Storm LE, I weighed the options closely. Either I kept a 75 point leadership character or I get a character that could give all my other characters a 19 defense. It was a tough call, but I feel I did the right thing. That trade made my con, in Grand Rapids, Michigan (where I play) I offered people ANYTHING for a Sue in trade. Not one person would do it, but at least my girlfriend was relieved. Since then she made me promise not to trade her for small figurines of women. I agreed....mainly because I had a Sue Storm......but if anybody has an Ares we'll talk. ;)
Hopefully you'll walk out of your next con a little richer then you were before, but as long as you keep you're girlfriend consider it a win.
