The Woman Who Never Was: A Marvel Universe Heroclix Campaign
by M. Brethen
The idea for this campaign is taken from Marvel Team-Up
#82-85, a four part storyline that finds Spider-Man, Nick
Fury, and a Black Widow, freshly recovered from amnesia,
fighting a bunch of hypnotized SHIELD agents on board the
SHIELD heli-carrier.
BACKGROUND: Before Black Widow got her memory back she
believed she was Nancy Rushman, a school teacher who had a
crush on Spider-Man after he saved her life. SHIELD Strike
Force Units are dispatched to take the black widow into
custody, but instead try to kill her. Spider-Man saves
"Nancy" by taking her out of harms way, but the Strike Force
Units are still on their trail.
MAPS: Several of these scenarios require using a specific
map. If a particular map is not available, then the players
should be able to decide on an appropriate substitute.
Resolve any disputes with a die roll.
The players may not use named duplicates in these scenarios.
But, in order to give the players more freedom in team
building, different versions of each may be used in
different scenarios.
*****
SCENARIO #1: No Way To Treat A Lady. The woman introduces
herself as Nancy Rushman, an Elementary School Teacher in
upstate New York, but she doesn't remember where in New York
she teaches. Spider-Man looks in "Nancy's" Bag, and takes
out the costume of Black Widow, and she is startled. Peter
also recognizes that this woman has the same initials as the
Widow: Natasha Romanoff, and realizes something is amiss.
Then out of nowhere, a SHIELD Strike Force Unit flies in,
blasting away.
TEAMS: Use 100 point teams.
The villain forms a 100 point team of figures with the
SHIELD team ability. He must use at least 50 points of
agents. No Medics!!!
The hero chooses any version of the Black Widow and
Spider-Man.
SET-UP: The villain chooses the map. The hero chooses their
starting side but deploys to the center two rows of the map
instead of their normal starting area. The hero goes first.
VICTORY: The scenario ends as soon as the Widow is KO'ed or
after ten rounds. Calculate victory points normally.
*****
SCENARIO #2: Slaughter on 10th Avenue! If the Widow is KO'ed
during the last scenario, Spider-Man's spider-sense goes
off, and he recognizes Nick Fury standing behind him. He
lunges at Ole' Nick and also gets shot. Peter eventually
comes to and realizes that he was shot with an anesthetic
bullet, from the same gun that Fury used to shoot the Widow
just seconds before. Heading for SHIELD headquarters,
Spider-Man makes his way into the building where he meets up
with the Widow again and they escape, just as the alarms go
off. If she survives the scenario, Peter takes her to
safety.
Meanwhile, the Widow's memory seems to be coming back to her
now, as she screams with memories flooding her thoughts.
Just as Peter calms her down and consoles her, Nick Fury
kicks the door down and "arrests" them both. As they walk
out to get into Nick's car, it blows up. Miraculously, no
one is injured, but the ambush begins...
TEAMS: Use 200 point teams.
The Villain picks any version of Boomerang and Silver
Samurai. To round out his team to 200 points, he may use
SHIELD agents. He may use duplicates of these generics.
The Hero chooses any version of the Black Widow and
Spider-Man, plus Nick Fury (Clobberin' Time) Unique.
MAP: Use the outdoor Avengers Mansion map.
SET-UP: Set up the heroes along the side of the map that
contains the front entrance. In addition to placing objects,
each player places three rubble markers on the map. The
villain deploys in the center two rows of the map. The
villain goes first.
VICTORY: The scenario ends if Boomerang is KO'ed (the
Samurai then uses his teleport ring and teleports him and
Boomerang away to who-knows-where!), or after ten rounds.
Calculate victory points normally.
*****
SCENARIO #3: Catch A Falling Hero. Aboard SHIELD's aircraft
known as the heli-carrier, a hypnotized Clay Quartermain is
side by side with Boomerang, the Silver Samurai, and the
mysterious woman once known as Madame Hydra: Viper. With the
aid of a Hypno-Beam she designed and tested, the heli-carrier
was soon under the Viper's command, and she has used this
most trusted defensive system of the United States against
its very own government.
Elsewhere, a thousand feet above the heli-carrier,
Spider-Man and the Black Widow are using gliders that are
undetectable by the carrier's scanners to get closer and
eventually inside. Nick Fury, on the other hand, is in his
air-car communicating to a hypnotized Quartermain, and he is
cleared for landing on the heli-carrier. Viper plans to kill
him aboard, as to not make any kind of scene outside the
carrier by simply shooting him down. Just as Fury is about
to get attacked by hypnotized SHIELD members, a mysterious
figure comes to his aid...
TEAMS: Use 300 point teams.
The Villain picks any version of Viper (or the Madame Hydra
LE), Boomerang and Silver Samurai. To round out his team to
300 points, he may use any combination of SHIELD
agents/troopers/snipers. He may also use the Clay
Quartermain and/or Gabe Jones LEs.
The hero chooses any version of the Widow, Nick Fury and
Spider-Man (any version). In addition, ONE of the following
unaffiliated (no TA) figures may also be used: Wolverine (or
Logan or Patch), Captain America, Black Panther, Moon
Knight, or Daredevil.
MAP: Use the Danger Room map from the Marvel Heroclix Map
Set.
SET-UP: Choose sides and set up normally.
SPECIAL RULES: If a knocked back figure encounters the map
edge with 3 or more spaces of movement left on its
knock-back, it goes through the side of the heli-carrier
into a two mile death-plunge; remove that figure from play.
VICTORY: Calculate victory points normally.
If the Hero wins, the Black Widow lets Spider-Man down easy
and the president's life is saved.
If the Villain wins, Viper escapes while mentioning that the
President's life is at stake -- just when he is about to
make a speech before a joint session of congress.
