Brotherhood of Mutants- Jake Foskuhl
Okay, in this article, I'll
introduce my team of the Brotherhood of Mutants. I'll skip the history lesson,
since almost everybody knows who they are. This team is similar to the movie
version. Here it is:
Magneto (as Xorn)- LE- 133 pts-
Ranged Combat Expert, Force Blast, Telekenises, Invurnability, Toughness, Energy
Explosion, Exploit Weakness- AWESOME! This guy is the most powerful Magneto to
date! (Still, I thought he would have Barrier by now...woulda made
sense.)
Mystique- Experienced- 43 pts.-
Stealh, Perplex, Energy Explosion- Great at boosting Magneto's damage and
weakning enemy attacks.
Sabretooth- Experienced- 51 pts.-
Stealh, Blades/Claws/Fangs, Toughness, Battle Fury, Regeneration- Awesome
fighter who stays in the game for a while.
Pyro- Experienced- 35 pts.- Energy
Explosion, Ranged Combat Expert, Barrier- Nifty little defense piece who can
pack a punch.
Destiny- Vetern- 29 pts.- Super
Senses, Probability Control- Great support, annoying and hard to
kill.
Okay, so Magneto
is obviosuly the bigest hitter on this team. I picked up this Wizard magazine
because it had an exclusive Magneto offer. So, Magneto being my
favorite villian from Marvel, I bought the issue and mailed away for him.
(Only five bucks for him and five for shipping.) Two weeks later, presto! He was
here.
Don't believe the
stats on the WizKids site- for some reason, they made him look worse. In
reality, he is one point more, his lowest attack value is 8, he has a base
damage of 3 almost his whole life (except the first click), and he looks really,
really cool! So, for the majority of his life, he does 5 damage at range. Yowza!
Plus, he has...10 range, 2 targets? Whoa! Even if he is based by Hulk or
someone, he can use Telekineses and blast him 10 squares away. Or Force Blast
him 2 or 3 without rolling. Then, near his death, he gets Exploit Weakness for a
few clicks. That would really take a chunk out of Hulk, who just hit Magneto.
Ouch!
Anyway, Mystique
is meant to hide in a bush near Magneto, giving him a ranged damage of 6 with
Perplex! She is better at helping Magneto, but can defend herself if
nessecary (is it just me, or should Mystique have Shape Change? Hmm... ).
Pyro is the same way. Barriers to keep Magneto safe from range and can shoot for
3 damage, curtesy of Ranged Combat Expert, to weaken foes Magneto has
softened up. Destiny may seem useless, since Mags has 12 attack to start with,
but Pyro only has 8. She can make sure lucky rolls don't hurt Magneto, plus she
should help protect Pyro, who has 17 defense.
Nice!
Since most of the
team relies around Magneto, it is important to have a secret weapon. For that,
we have Sabretooth. While the enemy is attacking Magneto and gang, Sabretooth
should sneak around to the back of your enemy's force with Stealth. Then, when
Mags is in trouble, out pops Sabretooth- a nasty fighter who will stay
around for a while, thanks to regeneration. Keep him near Destiny, to ensure
that Blades/Claws/Fangs hurts hard, and Regeneration
works.
Overall, I think
this is a lethal team and have yet to battle someone with it. If you don't have
Magneto as Xorn, who isn't easy to come by, you can downgrade Destiny to
Experienced and put in a unique Magneto from Ultimates. Sure, he's not as
powerful, but he's a more balanced leader and with the support on this team,
he'd last a while and give the team a more 'classic' feel.
