Hello Pojo Fans,

Humid Winds is the Throwback Thursday choice of the week and a Continuous Trap that sees some focus in the Aroma archetype.

Usually Continuous Trap cards and traps in general are slow, needing to be set most of the time to activate, but with Aroma Blend you can search this out and place it face-up on the field, thus giving you an active Humid Winds to activate immediately and search any Aroma monster from the Deck. If you happen to go lower in LP than your opponent, Humid Winds pays you back with 500LP, which can mean all the difference when you are trying to keep higher LP so your Aroma monsters have their effects available to you. Aroma Blend into Humid Winds, then search out any Aroma monster you want that will further your field situation.

Humid Winds was a good card for Aromas but needed Aroma Blend to add some quickness to it. If it were a Continuous Spell it would be far better, but now that it can be activated the turn you search it with Blend it at least is better.

With all the support centering around these Continuous Traps, it was fitting we’d go back to look at one of them, so let’s look at one of the better and most simple of them with Humid Winds.

Humid Winds is a Continuous Trap that lets you pay 1000 LP to add any Aroma monster from Deck to hand, which is great to be able to use each turn to get you to any of the monsters you might need to make your plays. Being a Trap also means you are searching on your turn and the opponent’s turn. If you do get behind on LP from paying so many, this also at least has the effect when the opponent has more LP than you to let you gain 500 LP, which would also trigger Aroma effects. This won’t always be live, and hopefully it isn’t as you are gaining so many LP, but it’s good to have just in case. Each effect is a hard once per turn, so I guess they don’t want you having multiples. It’s probably the easiest way to get to the Aroma monsters you need, and thankfully there’s a few cards to activate this from the Deck. The HOPT does make you only want to play a single copy, which is fine since access to this isn’t that limited.

What else to cover for this Throwback Thursday, if not Humid Winds? As part of the Winds mini-series, Humid Winds is a Continuous Trap closely connected to the Aroma archetype despite not being an Aroma card. Accordingly, you can search it with Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram or Aroma Blend, with the latter importantly placing it directly face-up into your Spell and Trap Zone. Humid Winds has two hard once per turn effects, the first letting you pay 1000 Life Points to search any Aroma monster. While having to pay is pretty lame, it’s well-worth it considering Aroma Blend effectively becomes a searcher and Aroma has a lot of monsters with value in the hand (Laurel, Rosalina, and Angelica, notably); in combos I’ve experimented with, I’ve found that it’s useful to grab Angelica or Rosalina so that you can trigger Dried Winds and Sweet Marjoram on command. The other effect can only be used while you have lower Life Points than your opponent, simply gaining 500 Life Points. Getting a half-refund on the search is great since you’ll obviously still want to maintain higher Life Points for Sweet Marjoram and Aromalilith Magnolia’s bonus protection. It can also trigger Sweet Marjoram and Dried Winds, though again, your Plant monsters would be in a vulnerable position if you have to use Humid Winds! Overall, Aroma Blend alone makes Humid Winds go from an oddly slow searcher to a powerful combo piece; I wouldn’t recommend more than one copy since it’ll mostly be a combo piece, though it does provide incredible follow-up potential.

+Key card to place off of Aroma Blend for combo purposes
+Provides more searching value the longer the duel goes on
-Slow searcher on its own
-LP payment can be annoying and the gain isn’t super reliable to trigger disruptions
